Only know one person who has been to Borneo and that was Mr's H friend who was Travel Agent, she loved it, sadly not with us now. As a bit of a thing she was a big U2 fan but always pronounced Bono's name as "Borneo" no idea why. Enjoy your experience, sounds fascinating.

I’ve lived in Saudi and Egypt myself, so I can only guess what a complete headspin it must be moving somewhere as different as that, but looks like could be a great decision for you both.
I guess climate-wise it’s a move from dry heat to wet heat?

Must admit we decided to have the option of dropping at the side....got level in the Texas Scramble invitational 2021 tournament yesterday & about time too. We fluffed putts on the last to win the back 9 sadly but we'll have the 'softies' next week.

Without wanting to sound too blasé about it, when we moved, Qatar was registering 48 degrees in the shade with 80% humidity (so the “feels like” was often over 60. Now granted it’s not that bad all year but it’s horrible from June - September as the humidity is crazy. No one ever thinks of the Middle East as being humid (I certainly didn’t expect it) but it is and it’s not nice.
Where I am the temperature is going to be 26-32 all year (topping to a “feels like” of 37-38 on the hottest/most humid days). Having just left one for the other then the difference is crazy. I’ve been enjoying the balcony as it’s lovely and warm but doesn’t feel anywhere near as oppressively hot. Plus I’ll actually see rain!

"There's only three things wrong with Dubai, June, July and August"
I went for the Dubai Cup Horse Racing in late March one year, it was so hot and humid at that time of year, I can't imagine how uncomfortable the later months would be.

Yeah I tend to think I was fully acclimatised but I got heat stroke a month or so ago even though I’d been playing golf every day and drinking 2-3 litres of water per round. It can just hit you some times and then it’s 2 or 3 days of feeling like crap. I won’t miss it.

I’ll hopefully be going to Scotland for a few days next week to catch up with friends who are touring in their caravan. The plan would be to get a couple of rounds in.
The nearest course to where they are staying is Gleneagles. Assuming the availability of tee times it’s £225 a pop for the main course or £150 for the others. As a high handicapper I’d almost feel embarrassed playing it but would you take the opportunity?
Any tips on reasonably priced courses in that neck of the woods for erm my other round?

You can get late afternoon bookings a lot cheaper and light at the moment is good for golf till 9pm.
Auchterarder is virtually next door and meant to be a very nice course though I've not played it.
Crieff is not far away and is a decent track.

Came out of quarantine on Saturday and today managed to join the golf and country club proper so tomorrow is our first round on a course I’ll get to know very well. I’m like a kid on Christmas Eve.

Well I’m sure no one gives a toss but the new course is bloody lovely.
I don’t even want to discuss how badly I scored but it started with a rope hook and an 8 on the first hole. We saw over a dozen monitor lizards, countless monkeys and a couple of alligators. Best thing is hearing the waves break on the beach whilst playing the back 9. Very happy day’s golf.

Played Cookridge in Leeds on Saturday and Horsforth on Sunday, great courses for my level (18 hcap). Horsforth is right next to the Runway at Leeds Bradford Aircport, great to see planes landing and taking off (most were JET2), even though most were just on maintenance flights. £41 Cookridge including fish, chips and peas plus a dessert. Horsforth £32 including sandwiches and jockeys whips pre golf. Stayed in Leeds City Centre Saturday and Sunday night, Saturday was mad, kicking off all over the gaffe. Played a Texas Scamble at Bradley Park in Huddersfield in the way home yesterday, £10! Tough course for a Municipal but great value. Fantastic weekend, 20 of us. I organised it all and the lads paid for my meal on Saturday night and bought me a bottle of expensive Brandy and a golf shop voucher for £100, what a brilliant gesture, very much appreciated, great set of friends.
