Good luck City we're all rooting for you!!!

That has just restored my faith in the football supporting world. You are a gentleman for taking the time to write that superb, oh and I now forgive you Pompey fans for trashing my hire car at that game in 85

Thank You Pete for a post that came from the heart. Pompey fans know only to well the heartache and the joy that goes with supporting a team with the history and tradition of our two respective clubs. Sad to say the Rags will think Pompey have no history either.

Cheers also to you Hammers fans hope you do the business and are back in the Prem next year.

Thanks Pete what a top bloke and quality post.
Have a lot of time for pompey been there with some mates from pompey a few times and they have had as hard a time as us and still support their team with passion.

COME ON CITY/PLAY UP POMPEY

Thanks Pete. Brought a tear to my eye that post. What a true footballing gentleman. But tbf it's what I've been hearing from 95% of other fans... I just hope your're all celebrating with us at 5 o'clock.

Just like to second the good luck wishes - this from a West Ham supporter.

I never speak for anyone but myself but I do know that there's always been a soft spot for your mob in our corner of the world going WELL back - the famous relegation match in 1986 and the respective actions of both sets of supporters is still spoken about now (and how far away must that feel for some of your old timers this morning!) - so I'm sure East London will be cheering Blue come 3pm.

Good luck lads - and should it all play out as scripted today, enjoy it....it's been well earned

cheers irone, well remember that day in 1987,thought it was going to kick off for a minute.

Apologies - I posted nearly these exact words on a contribution to the "general" forum earlier this w/e. Just to endorse the original post:

I am a Stokie, and came on here a couple of times twelve months ago, for obvious reasons.

Two things. First - mercenaries attaching themselves to successful flags of football convenience is (as you know) nothing new. When I was growing up in Leek in the 60s, "supporting" Man U was commonplace. I reckon it was about 50/50 (Man U/Stoke). The difference being, of course, that most of the latter actually went to the games.

I do not particularly like the phrase "gloryhunting", but I recognised it even then as spineless treachery - and spineless treachery it remains to this day. Put it this way - I remember very clearly being the only kid in my school playground backing Benfica in the European Cup Final in May 1968.

Second - I don't need to tell you how gutted I was to lose in the Cup Final, but when we got home I got my two kids (both took SCFC with their mother's milk) to call their Granddad (on my wife's side, you understand) - a lifelong Man C fan, who was in fact at Wembley to see your win (in the early 50s?). It really was quite a moving moment.

I am by nature a pessimist, and generally think if something can go wrong it will. So in your position I would be feeling nervous - very nervous. But I just cannot see you blowing it. And assuming I am right, I will at 17.01 this evening be getting my kids to call my father in law (their Granddad) once again.

I will have tear in my eye on his behalf.
