I have recently returned from a culinary tour of Mallorca and dined at this place which was as good a meal as I have eaten

I can't see myself visiting Mallorca for a good while, unless we draw then in the Champs League, but i would appreciate your opinion on where to eat in Manchester.
the market is on my list to visit, but i'm sure a high roller like yourself could point me in the better direction.

Sadly not. For me personally the dearer/supposedly better restaurants in Manchester are pretty poor. For example places like Rosso etc are just glorified pizza expresses but twice the price. Jamies Italian was good and pretty reasonable, I have also had some great meals at Room and have taken quite a few girls there on first dates and it's a nice place to go with your other half. Grill on the Alley/Grill on Ney York street are pretty decent too.....but as I said nowhere really stands out for me.

Have you tried The Abode? It's odds on to get Manchester's first Michelin star.

More importantly

Where did you go on the second date?

Or was that it?

That came out a bit wrong, I was just saying it's a nice venue to go with a lady.

Room is good, with quality food, but a tad expensive for what you get.

I take the same girl there every time, she knows how lucky she is!

Yes it probably is mate, thats my point there a lot of places in manc where you pay to sit in a very well designed pleasant environment rather than high quality food.

Best place I have been to of late, but lets face it Manchester is a culinary wilderness, how a city of this size has no Michelin starred restaurants is pretty embarrassing!

Utter rubbish - plenty of marvellous food in Manchester cafes, let alone pubs like Marble Arch, Knott Bar, Automatic (Bury), White Hart (Lydgate) etc

Not Michelin but that's a very specific type of dining that I bet Carlos would hate.

Really, been to two of those establishments but only ate in Knott -average. Don't get me wrong it's good hearty food, but a franchman would not accept such mediocre fayre especially for the price.

Add another one for Cicchetti's.

Been a few times and it's outstanding, I would suggest it might even be better than San Carlos, its bigger brother!

Apart from that, a Wetherspoons Big Brekky is probably as good as it gets in central Manchester...
