I'm determined to introduce this word into my everyday conversation more frequently as I think it will make me appear more in touch with urban youth.

It's an accurate word to describe the people who said they did hate him, or couldn't stand him. If we still had all of the original Balotelli thread intact, which would now be nearly 1000 pages by my reckoning, there's numerous examples of people actually using the word hate, and many more vicious words besides.
