Gout

I've had gout several times, a heart attack (had a stent), prostate cancer and vertigo over the last years.

Of them all, vertigo was the worst, followed by gout.

By the way I was wide awake when they inserted the stent at Wythenshawe who were 1st class.

I still put it down to watching City down the years lol. Wouldn't change a thing though. Rags to riches?

I have had gout in the past, not as bad as some on here by the sound of it. Also had kidney stones twice and never felt pain like it. Anyone who has had gout will know it is important to try and avoid certain foods, but what is absolutely vital is to drink at least 2 litres of plain water, that's 3.5 pints daily. May seem hard at first but many guys have no problem shifting 3 and a half pints of beer a day. I drink around 2 litres of water a day and rarely have any gout twinges. If I do a Naproxen tablet soon sorts out any uric acid build up but drinking water is so good for many things and I can't stress that enough!

Think this has hit me over night!
Foot red and very hot and painful!
Thing is I eat healthy and drink lots of water!!
Why always me!?

Just experiencing my first case of gout. Assumed I'd broken my toe (but had no recollection of how) but I'm seeing a doctor and she reckons it's gout. It's horrendous pain - can't walk.

Hadn't even considered it could be that as I'm only 32, and - a few days in Porto notwithstanding, the healthiest I've been in the last decade. Gout has always sounded like an old man problem. Fuck sake I hate getting old.

The doctor told me I might have gout last year. Turned out it was a posterior tibial tendonitis and I just had to rest up and do some calf exercises.

Not sure what the moral of the story is here, other than I'm never seeing that doctor again.

It’s not always lifestyle it could be hereditary, looks like water diet for you in the future got to flush those crystals away.

I had it in my mid 20’s. Was pretty fit at the time and was certain I must have broken my toe playing football. Had it on and off for a couple of weeks I think but have never had it since.

Yeah, my parents haven't had it so I think its more likely to be lifestyle for me. I've lost 4.5 stone in the last year so just a bit odd to have it now rather than 12 months ago or more.

Thinking about it, I probably haven't drank as much water in the last couple of weeks though, so will take your advice, and get back to drinking as much as possible.

Fuck me its agony though. Didn't sleep last night. Hoping its a bit better tonight.

You learn. To spot the danger signs although it’s a painful fucking lesson, I once had an attack in my knee which lasted a week. Take it easy mate.

I'm 56 and only just got it under control the last couple of years via allopurinol

I'v always drank way too much and will never stop, but im ok with 200mg allopurinol dailly

from being roughlt 30 to 53-54 i just put up with it and took anti inflammatories when it started ,which was frequently

i was offered allopurinol way back but said id just keep taking the painkillers while they worked

big mistake by me,i now have osteoarthritis because of my neglect

allopurinol is your way out ,take it if your gout persists,IMO

Been on alpurinol for it since I was 25 and now I'm 49...in all those years I've not had one attack of it since thank god but and this is the but I developed kidney stones which is another side step/effect c of the gout and to be honest I never thought you could ever experience more pain than gout but kidney stones are another level of shit...I would take gout pain over kidney stone pain all day everyday

Something to look forward to.....

Suffered few really painful episodes of it but thankfully not for a while. Changed diet and amount I was drinking due to another health issue and hopefully that's helped with the gout. I used to work for NHS and stayed in staff accommodation for short while. Tiny room the bed was against a wall and I woke in agony about 3 in morning thinking I'd kicked the wall and broken toes. Limped to A&E for them to confirm it was gout.
