Govt set to take over running of Liverpool according to report

From an allegedly corrupt mayor to a corrupt government, convicted of the unlawful award of business contracts and of deliberately misleading the house, just as has been alleged against Joe Anderson. I despair at who we elect and of how our media chooses which focus gives them the best outcome for themselves in their offshore havens.

Reading this thread the consensus seems to be, leave them to it, am I right?

Let the judicial process run and let the democratic process elect a mayor.

It seems so which is pretty worrying, my relatives there, all but one are scousers, talk openly of how it is wrong but then don't think their own fiddles are.
It is a weird place and Derek Hatton is still running the city making a killing from the corruption.
Hopefully the govt. Go in quick and don't hang around long.

Not for Liverpool no.
Not for anyone.

The council next door to me is Tory controlled. It's known the leader and certain Tory councillors are using it for their betterment. Being Tory run this is ok.

Maybe the whole system needs to be overhauled but that's another debate.

It seems to be like the Premier League, certain councils are allowed to be bent, others aren't. If your neighbouring council is corrupt it needs calling out.

Agree. There are councillors calling it out in meetings.

My council Is labour run and low and behold they are considering doing the same to that because of 'financial mismanagement'

Councils are cash starved as it is without a cunts of any political affiliation taking our money for themselves.

Wouldn't it save taxpayers money if the government just granted Liverpool independence?

Probably the first step towards getting state aid to Pool FC like Barca and RM (assuming Fenway are not already at it).

Degsy the property developer and businessman. Gained national prominence as deputy leader of Liverpool City Council in the 1980s and was a member of the Trotskyist Militant group.
Still, upholding his Trotskyist principles eh?

Tories have always hated the Liverpudlians.....and would love to do one over on them.

The problem is they were not wrong.

The history of regional development in this country is patchy to say the least, but the basics are irrefutable. If you're looking for a return on investment for every £1 you pump in to a region, then Liverpool is languishing somewhere at the bottom.

The economic reality is simple, if you invest money in Manchester you get a return on your investment.

Merseyside? Not so much.

While true, the job of the government is to provide safety and security to its citizens. Areas of East Lancashire, the North West, North East and South West are so impoverished, both financially and aspirationally, that investment is essential and not just a matter of profit. Unfortunately, we have a government that allows one in four major UK companies to pay zero tax and £21 trillion to be squirrelled away, offshore, while the government has stalls advertising tax havens at its party conference, yet essential services and community investment cannot be funded.

EU regional funding operates along those lines. The Tories not so much.

But regardless of ones political standpoint, in a capitalist system regions decline because capital has fled, and it flees because a regions economic advantage has declined, while other regions have risen, these things happen for a myriad of reasons but they're not a mystery.

If you're serious about regional development you have to operate on an ambitious build it and they will come basis.

That's the way of it, it's the name of the shop, no one should be surprised, and if the polls are correct, if there were an election tomorrow the Tories would be re-elected.

This story is not about the corruption we are discussing here but I will tell it anyway. A blood relative of mine lives in scouse land and is married into the cult. Their daughter in law works for a care home, when it came time to give the residents the covid jab the wife was put down as admin my relative was a gardner.
My 86 year old (manchester) mam hasn't had her second jab but they both have. The whole City seems to be based on greed, selfishness and lack of any moral fibre.

About 4% of the UK population as a whole has had their 2nd dose, so if these people have had theirs they're very unusual. I personally would avoid drawing any big conclusions about Liverpool as a whole (maybe pissing in the wind saying this on BM, but still) based on this one story. You can find arseholes in every walk of life all over the UK.

I know what you mean it just pisses me off that they could lie, and the care home management fully agree with the lie. If these 2 can get the jab by claimng they were staff, how many other 'members of staff' were mechanics, cleaners etc.
