Grand Canyon visit

Went to Vegas for the Mayweather v Hatton fight early December 2007.

Hired a hummer for 4 of us, was told the closest Grand Canyon viewing point was about 2 hours away. Stopped at the Hoover Dam, just a load of concrete and water really. Anyway driving for ages so we stopped at a diner in Kingman for a nosebag. The waitress told us we had passed the GC, so went back the other way, got to the entrance and a Ranger drove towards us, asked what we were doing, when we said we're going to the visitor site he said "sorry fellas, it's shut" we said it's only just gone 3pm it's open until 4pm, he clocked it straight away, "you're on Nevada time, this is Arizona, one hour in front, it's shut". He said we could drive to the bottom of the Canyon and see it from there. Drove down a dusty old road, passed a couple shagging in a car and got to a shed with a bog, that was it, looked around for 5 minutes, mate had a shit, drove back. It was dark by this time, managed to find a fuel pump at the back of a shop that sold food, gasoline, guns and ammunition.Just getting to Vegas and mate turns left into oncoming traffic on a 5/6 lane highway, 3 passengers screaming like girls, just managed to turn the hummer round before we were crushed by wagons, great day!

Missed the flight home on the Monday due to the weather in Chicago where we were due to transfer flights, finally got home Thursday, Mrs H didn't believe me.
Haha, sounds like one of those "What we did on our Holidays" essays at school.

Believe me Bill, the whole 6 days was littered with disasters from missing flights to and from Manchester to Vegas, cancelled hotel rooms because we were late there to the GC day out and a farce of a day when the fight was on. Also witnessed a bunch of American construction workers on a night shift having a meal at about 2am in a restaurant with their boss having a very heated argument where the gaffer sacked one of them sat at the table. A trip of so many memories. My mate wanted to see the Bellagio fountains, they weren't working and the Pirate ship show was closed for essential maintenance, Ricky lost as well.

Saw the fountains last night. Had no idea about them but loads of folk standing around waiting for something as I passed by and then these fountains all shot out to a Lady Gaga tune!

They are fantastic, loads of different music to keep it fresh. If you are there long enough have a trip to the Old Town and the Fremont Street Experience, well worth a visit, monorail to the Link Hotel then taxi, don't attempt to walk, it's a bit rough between the old town and the Link hotel, where are you staying?

The Cultural Corridor is best avoided, not the culture you might be looking for

Far end of the southern end of LV Boulevard
Have Thursday and Friday left (fly 9.30pm Friday) - tomorrow night Morrissey is on at Ceaser's Palace. May go and see that.... not sure yet ;)

Ha ha, the surest bet ever in Vegas that you will be at that Gig, the whole reason for your trip I'm guessing. Enjoy your last couple of days.
