When I left Uni in 1990 my then girlfriend said to me " A woman will win the Grand National in the next 25 years" . She had this horrible tendancy of being correct. Anyone know if any female jockeys riding this year ?

Ruby Walsh won it in 2000 and 2005.

No woman has ever won the Grand National.

Katie Walsh finished third on Seabass in 2012, is the best finishing position for a woman.

Do you think Nina will have a good chance tomorrow BP?

Without a doubt. She's on a classy horse and is more than capable as a jockey. I was there yesterday and she gave On the Fringe an exceptional ride.

Pricewise gave First Lieutenant 25/1 and Rocky Creek 10/1 for tomorrow. This what he said about FL:

If you haven’t got a portfolio consisting of one at a big price yet, the one to back is First Lieutenant for Nina Carberry.

In the big scheme of things a win for a female jockey would be a far bigger story than any other and I think she has a real shot.

First Lieutenant is just the type of horse that used to win the National in that he has top-class back form and, with his trainer coming back from out of the doldrums, First Lieutenant has a lot going for him.

Don’t forget he beat Rock On Ruby over hurdles at the Cheltenham Festival before that horse went on to win the following year’s Champion Hurdle and he also won the Grade 1 Bowl here in 2013.

Be really happy for her if she wins.

Al Co is the one I will be backing though.

Well we all know the GN is a bit of fun so I picked mine and one for my daughter and grandson etc and Nina is one of ours lol

Would love a woman to win it. Horse related sports are one of the few where women can compete equally with men. It's a gruelling ride though the GN and requires stamina.

Ok based on the following formula, this has given the winner 13 times in the last 18 years. This year it has come up with these horses. If I've made a mistake, let me know and I'll edit the list:

Knock out any runner older than 11 or younger than 9 (88% of last 17
winners were aged 9-11yo)
Knock out any runner that has run in the last 16 days or had a break
of more than 56 days (100%)
Knock out any runner rated less than 136 (100%)
Knock out any runner carrying more than 11-06 (100%)
Knock out any runner that ran in a Grade 1 or Grade 2 race last time out (100%)
Knock out any runner with fewer than 3 starts this Season (100%)
Knock out any runner that has won more than 2 chase races this Season (100%)
Knock out any GB Bred runners (94%)
Knock out any runner that finished outside the top 8 last time out (88%)

Rocky Creek 10/1
First Lieutenant 20/1
Night in Milan 25/1
Al Co 28/1
Mon Parrain 50/1
Rebel Rebellion 50/1
--------------------------
Portrait King 80/1
Super Duty 100/1
Rubi Light 100/1

Gas Line Boy (100/1) is bang on the 56 days without a run.

Perhaps the ones above the dotted line may be the ones to focus on.
Good luck all.

Thanks for that, you would believe how many people have been asking me for that short list after I told them last year, thanks again
