Thought it was gra-nit, as in nora.
A number of years ago a friend from Ghana tried to get me to front a company importing granite for grave stones, apparently at the time most of it was coming from India. Don't know if this is the same with kitchens.

Watched program about the guy who sold kitchens and had load of complaints he went off to India I think buying granite

theres a pretty good place near me kws kitchens there link is below and then give away free granite with the voucher on that syt worktops or summat check it i have been told its good.
