Grappling at corners - my solutions

Think we need to talk about our defending and taking of corners.
1. Arse showed that with some organisation and pushing the rules of the game you can score quite regularly (the Arse method is quite simple. Put 5 burly chaps a few yards outside the far post. Put your biggest meanest header of the ball a yard inside the penalty area. Ask corner taker to put ball onto the edge of the far edge of six yard box. All ready? Good.
2 take corner. First three burly chaos surround and block opposition goalkeeper so he can’t move. Biggest meanest header gadge starts a run and accelerates towards corner of six yard box. 2 other burly chaps block any defender in vicinity of six yard box. Ball is put on a sixpence and biggest meanest header bursts net with easiest goal he will ever score.
What do you do to stop that?

It’s hardly a revolutionary idea. It’s worked twice for Arsenal in quick succession. It probably won’t work again for six months.

Of course, defending them a little better than City did on Sunday helps. Thank Christ they only had two.

In an ideal world, by the time the ball reaches the area, your ‘keeper isn’t lying on the ground and the defender marking the main threat hasn’t played tippy tappy with him for 30 seconds and then watched as he runs past him.

How about some fucking consistency
We had a goal ruled out against Liverpool because Allison sat down on his line
This. City fans on here are pretty good at criticising Pep and the team, (see the media thread witch hunt against Walker)
If we had done what Arsenal did it would have been called a foul all day long. As you state a slight touch on Alisson had a perfectly good goal ruled out. Different rules for different teams

Sick to death of all the grappling etc thats increasingly crept into the game over the last couple of years, not just in the box its happening all over the pitch.

Why this has become seemingly acceptable and part of the game i,ll never know. Make it clear it will be punished, couple of penalties awarded it will soon stop.

Was sure we had been victims (sounds socouse i know) of a previous clampdown, quick search and 2016 ! And low and behold penalty given against us and clampdown was over.

Teams need to be a bit more savvy. They should be going down as the ball is being struck or defenders pushing attackers into the goalkeeper.

Regardless, I think with Arsenal doing this in a high profile are now on notice. Teams also have a habit of copying and replying in kind. I am sure Arsenal players, management and fans won't cry about it when it is against them ;)

It would not surprise me if in the next year or so, a rule change that protects keepers in such instances is implemented.

Teams just need to clear out of the 6 yard box as soon as the ball comes in. If they score direct off a header with 2 players practically stood on the keeper's toes, it's 100% going to be offside.

Surely the ball would have been played backwards from the corner so no offside possible?

Arsenal are profiting from the lack of refereeing on their current corner routine.

We should have been far better prepared for it. Someone at the near post protecting a shot directly at goal, Haaland and Gvardiol stopping Martinelli etc from blocking Ederson who is then in a better position to clear the ball. They did the same thing against Spurs and it was pretty poor to see us so inept at dealing with it.

To be fair, the one we got in the same game, from memory, was as soft as they come. Theirs was later on and was more a levelling up one.
