Grealish left out of the CWC squad (pg34)

I agree with you, I'm just uneasy with a witch hunt on one player.
There's no witch hunt on Jack Grealish. His song is still sung most times he plays. Unlike Richard Edghill who was verbally berated every time he played. That was a proper witch hunt by lots of blues and totally out of order. Thank goodness we didn't have Internet access in those days.

I meant by some on here, anyhow it is what it is, people either rate him or not.

I rate Grealish highly as he's a very talented player. However, he frustrates me no end. Very rarely does he come out of his shell and play a blinder. He rarely has a proper impact on a game with a match deciding goal or assist. He's often a boring and predictable plodder that defenders most often nullify any threat from him. Villa didn't even mark him earlier this season.

Last summer having been left out of the England squad he got himself into shape and looked fit and eager to have a breakout season to prove his doubters wrong. I was excited by him hoping he could finally realise his potential and deliver the goods. Jack himself spoke on how he'd underperformed the season before last and he was up for this(last) season. The bubbles in his bottle soon went flat as he mostly flattered to deceive in yet another poor season.

There's a good player in Jack Grealish but Pep hasn't been able to coax it out of him. I really hope his next manager can but I wouldn't bet on it.

I’ve tried to post something positive about Grealish four times in the last few minutes, each time the website has wiped my comments . I want him to stay and play in the position he was bought for.
Haters can fuck right off..!!

He's predictable because that's how we've been playing for a while now, I'm in no doubt that's how he's been told to play. His performances when picked haven't warranted him being left out so often, it must be something else.

It's been a circular argument now. Without knowing the ins and outs I can only go off what I see on the pitch.

If there is no behind the scenes problems then Pep has treated him badly but why would he? We may never find out.

Pep has told him more than once he needs to score and assist more, Jack has admitted his stats aren't good enough.

He's a confidence player who seems to play well when he's in the right mood but when he isn't we see him taking easy passes sideways and backwards, and not shooting when he should with power and conviction. He has it in him to put in MOTM (like top players do) but he too often plays like he's just going through the motions not wanting to be a winner.

Pep has played him plenty and he has never in his career been someone who scores lots of goals in a season. So one wonders if the naysayers are correct why we bought and played him so much.

Anyhow the whole debate as nowhere else to go now, there is nothing new to add.

Could/should we read anything into the fact that his absence has coincided with us having a relatively poor season?
Do you mean the season where we were hampered by injuries and lost the best player in the world to injury and Pep having marital issues, losing his head thinking about his collapsing family? Unless Grealish suddenly turned into Rodri, who is too pivotal to the way we play, as in heart and soul of how we play, I’m not sure what you’re talking about… but go on, I’m listening — maybe you’re onto something.

I think there was opportunity this season to play him inside more. I don’t think he’s had a bad game for us playing centrally, not that he’s played centrally enough in my opinion. I obviously don’t know what is going on behind the scenes but I’d rather he got another season on the middle of the pitch instead of us loaning him out and paying 70% of his wages or spunking 80 million on a Debruyne replacement that isn’t our top target. I’m not suggesting for a second that Jack is a debruyne replacement, but if he can stay fit he has the stamina and work rate to keep us on top in midfield, certainly with Rodri back and Nico/foden/gundo/bernardo in there too. We’ve been overrun in midfield due to lack of pace/mobility at times this season.

If it’s that he likes a pint then the club should be fining him for not being fit to play and then his wages aren’t an issue.

If he doesn’t move he’ll definitely be a starter in the US so we’ll see how he is after a fortnight in Ibiza.

At one point, I'm pretty sure that the entire back line — Días, Stones, Akanji and Aké — were out through injury. Indeed, two of them still haven't come back! And one has only come back very recently. And that's without talking about Rodri and Bobb. And Haaland being out for two spells, was it? Our season has everything to do with a truly horrendous injury record, the likes of which I don't remember seeing. Jack's influence, positive or negative, has had a negligible effect on our season.

Only a question.... thanks for your viewpoint - much appreciated. I think Jack only starting one PL game in 2025 (I think) is.... interesting, given the number of injuries we have suffered - as you correctly pointed out.

The big problem with discussing bought players at City is that the transfer fee and rumoured wages will always overshadow the debate. The second problem is Pep; we know he's a control freak and wants players to play in a certain way or they are out of the team/squad. What we don't know is how much input Pep had in the transfer and what role Pep envisaged for Jack.
I'm not sure how many players have been sold for >£80M, but would Grealish bear comparison with any, other than those going to Saudi Arabia for stupid amounts.
He certainly played a part in our treble and four in a row, but that doesn't mean we couldn't have spent the money more wisely.
