I think Andy was after 90m

Didn't it start at £90 million?

Reduced to £75 million by Burnham .

Government offered £22 million (daft figure because they'd given Liverpool £30 million and its half the population)

Burnham asks for £65 million as a concession

Government offered £60 million take it or leave it.

Interesting that the Tories were trying to divide and conquer by speaking to individual council leaders behind the back of Andy Burnham.

So my MP; Chris Clarkson (definitely didn't vote for him) thinks its a good idea to now go after Andy Burnham. He's seriously misjudging the area he represents and how many people here will be affected. Only one side of this is playing politics and forgetting it's people's survival on the line.

Not been in the job 12 months yet and I'm yet to see anything of substance from him, doesn't appear to be able to think for himself either.

What do you expect from a middle class Cheshire based Tory that sneaked his way into Middleton and Heywood?
He'd better make the most of this term, unless he gets moved to a safe seat as a thank you.

The 22m is to cover track and trace. The 60m was support for local businesses (Burnham went down to 65 from initially wanting 90). Jarvis has essentially accepted the same offer that Burnham didn’t - 11m for track and trace and 30m to support local businesses for a populalation size that’s half that of GM.

So basically, unless local leaders agree to support the government, they’re withholding any money to support local businesses and people through it. There’s no reason to do it and they’re holding all the local leaders over a barrel just so that when this all comes back to bite, they can spread the blame. If they don’t go along, like Burnham, they’ll portray that it was his fault for blocking it or delaying lockdown, despite it never actually being his accountability anyway - it’s always been in the governments control.

It is the creation of the exact same battleground as Trump vs individual states in the US and it’s a very dangerous and slippery slope.

The question that needs to be asked is if the government thought that 60m was needed to get people through the next few months, why have they withheld that rather than just signing it off? That shows what they were really negotiating for.

The 22M is the track/trace support stuff, isn't it?

Was that part of the 65M or the 60M?

The Sheffield deal, it was 11m for track and trace and 30m for businesses, so 41m in total for a population half the size.

If the 60/65m was also inclusive of track and trace, then Sheffield have been offered a much better deal (equivalent to one Burnham would have accepted, as it would have been 82m in total).

He has signed his own election defeat today hasn't he.

Steve Baker MP has also gone down that route with Marcus Rashford. Blocking people from replying, there are a lot of people angry at Baker. He has said QE cant be used to feed kids, but it was fine to pay bankers bonuses.

The clowns are coming apart at the seams, the lies are catching up with them and people are seeing them for what they are at last. Expect a rush of cash handed out to there mates for services rendered and as it is has always been the case and probably always will, a Tory government will be surrounded by the stench of corruption, they cant keep their grubby little fingers out of the nations till. They treat the average working lad as personal cash cards to pay for their largesse. I have always hated Thatcher but even the old witch was nowhere near as bad as this current collection of halfwits, crooks, conmen and sociopaths.

To reiterate though, there is no reason why the government has withheld the 60m, there is nothing stopping them from doing so. Whether Burnham says yes or no is actually meaningless to what the government can do if they want to. They’re essentially trying to pay for local political support and are willing to risk people’s lives and livelihoods for not getting it.
