Greatest Manchester Band?

Oasis not only my favourite but the greatest.

Who else could sell out three Wembley stadium dates (270,000 tickets), two Heaton Park dates (140,000) plus they will sell out the third date (extra 70,000), Slane Castle (90,000), SOL (45,000), Murrayfield (60,000), so thats 675,000 tickets sold in a few hours?

No one else comes close, they could also have a set list of 50 songs that everyone would know, not many bands could do that either.

LEGENDS

Oasis had one half decent album, and are followed by cloth eared fuckers who couldnt recognise a good tune if it hit them in the face. The people who got to their gigs are not much different from the people who say they are " MAN U" (god I hate that term) fans, just because they think it is the acceptable thing to do.

Oh and The Chameleons are the best Manchester band ever!

I take it you've been to an Oasis gig then... putting you into the "Cloth eared" "Man U" type fans category you just described?

I have countless friends who don't like "Music" but will happily go and see Oasis

I'm well into music and its undoubltly Oasis who generated by interest in it - however much i used to like them they are simply nowhere near as good as people make out

Album/Concert Sales and general popularity in the music industry are no indication as to the quality of the band

Most people on here know very little

Many bands and acts could.

Jackson, Prince, Led Zep, Spice Girls, Take That, McCartney, AC/DC, Metallica.......

I'll stop now.

Apart from MJ and Prince, i don't think any of them including McCartney could sell out concerts the size of Oasis.

Michale Jackson, Take That and Led Zep I'd agree with, they'd be able to match Oasis' ticket sales. I don't think Prince is as 'loved' as you think BT, certainly not in the UK. The Spice Girls possibly could a couple of years ago, but they've done their 'comeback tour' people don't care now (Take That at least released new material that (gulps whilst he says this) wasn't actually totally terrible), I can't see McCartney getting anywhere near those kinds of ticket sales, Doubt Metallica have that kind of mass appeal either. AC/DC I assume were put in there for a bit of a laugh?!! Good as they may be (and I don't know a lot of their stuff) they've clearly not got anywhere near the following to sell out the kind of gis we're talking about here.

For what it's worth I think the best Manchester band ever is a hard thing to define. The Stone Roses burnt brightly, but for a very short time. Can you be the greatest with just two albums? Oasis have longevity, but haven't maintained the quality to go with it, after Morning Glory their albums were iffy to say the least, very few stand out tracks over the last few years. The Smiths is probably the best shout I've heard, they released numerous albums, the majority of which were well received, and they've got a back catalogue of recognisable songs that's fairly deep.
