Greatest Movie Director

You say: "spielberg made 2-3 near perfect movies and 2-3 great movies"

So that is six great movies, as a minimum, but I think it is more than that. 6 truly great movies is a lot.

I love John Carpenter, for instance, but has made two great movies at most.
near perfect
Raiders
Jaws
Shindlers list

great
close encounters
jurasic park

of all them I rewatch none (maybe raiders or jaws if thry are on)

2 nights ago I rewatched Escape from New York, I regularry watch the thing, Big trouble in little china, They live, Ghosts of mars, Halloween, the fog etc

he may have made great films but not film I want to revisit unlikenamny other directors

If I had a choice of ET or Con Air I Know which I would put on, the one that entertains everytime not necessarily the best film so Con Air by a distance

Best thing David Lynch did in the movies was his cameo in Spielberg's last movie.

I understand your irony here. Fine. I understand that you don't rate Lynch. Fine. No problem.
But ask yourself this: why did Steven Spielberg — who many on here and in the world consider to be the greatest living director — ask Lynch to do that role? And in the role of John Ford, who the young Spielberg clearly considered to be the boss of them all?
Or do you think that Lynch went knocking on his door because he needed the work?

Murray reveals that he picked up Garfield's script and noted that it was written by one Joel Cohen. Mistakenly believing this to be the celebrated co-architect of dark comedies The Big Lebowski and O Brother, Where Art Thou? (rather than the creator of such gems as Evan Almighty and Daddy Day Camp, whose name has an additional "h"), Murray happily signed up. His mistake only became clear when he turned up to record his voiceover. Sample line: "I think I'm going to blow cat-chow chunks!"

I don't think anyone has said it so I'll add David Fincher.

Seven, Zodiac, Social Network, Gone Girl, Fight Club. As a Top 5 that ain't bad at all.

Also Robert Zemeckis: Back to the future Trilogy, Castaway, Flight, Forrest Gump, Roger Rabbit.

Jonathan Demme wouldn't ever be considered anywhere near the greatest but his two best are pretty decent: Philadelphia, Silence of the lambs.
