Greatest winger to play for City

I don't think Coleman gets anywhere the 'greatest winger to play for City'.

He was a bit part player apart from a year and a half as a regular starter around the Championship winning season. He subsequently lost his place to the likes of David Connor and Ian Bowyer before departing.

I would start with David Wagstaffe and Neil Young who were excellent in a struggling team in the early 1960s. Wagstaffe was sold and Young moved to 'number ten' as Mike Summerbee arrived on the scene.

What I liked about Summerbee was that he could play equally well through the middle and did so frequently with Francis Lee moving wide to confuse the defences.

The only ones to stand out for me after that period was Dennis Tuart and Peter Barnes although a case could be made for Shaun Wight-Phillips and perhaps in the future for Jesus Navas.

Peter Barnes simples for me:

Enjoy a trip down memory lane when he destroyed a not so shabby Italian side in 1977.

In my lifetime it has to be Buzzer.

He was brilliant, and my favourite player of all time.

I have never seen a winger play as well as he could for City.

Peter Barns was good, but he only did it for a season until he was found out.

Tueart lost the ball too often, and Nevas just won't take anyone on like Buzzer did.

Mike Summerbee is my choice.

Surely we've gotta take longevity into account? Doing it season after season. On those grounds, it's Buzzer. Barnes looked unstoppable for a season or two, but then faded mysteriously. Tueart and SWP must be up there, as well. But we all tend to go for the player that we were at the ground most often to see in person. Only human, really.

I was at that match. :-) Keegan was brilliant. Brooking was the best midfield player that I've ever had the privilege to watch, with the possible exception of Colin. Had Brooking been at a bigger club, far more of the younger generation of fans would have heard of him. He was a Hammers man for his entire career, though. There'll be no more of that, at any club.

The Italians were a very dirty team in those days , how Gentille and the fella who elbowed Keegan stayed on the pitch is a mystery . Some great players in the England team , but unfortunetly every top national team had a bunch of great players .
