Grooming gang scandal

Like many on this thread still.

The desperation to try and steer the discussion away from the real issue here as discussed in today’s report says everything about the mentality, still evident that helped cover these crimes up.
I haven’t had time yet today to properly look at Casey’s report, but judging from the posts of the past couple of pages, I assume that it mostly focussed on the Catholic Church, right?

It still astonishes me that we have no problem with them continuing to run schools. It's never even come up, the idea that this international paedophile ring might have the right to educate a huge number of children stripped from them.

Yep, as a Catholic, albeit so far lapsed the Hadron Collider wouldn’t be able to detect a molecule of faith, I have a deep rooted animus to that organisation running anything. Equally, I am against all religious schools irrespective of their Abrahamic faith.

It would seem that these grooming gangs did actually consist of mostly of Pakistani and Asian men. With their crimes ignored or brushed under the carpet by local authorities, police and others whos jobs it should have been to protect those young girls.

Bizarre how some people can be blinded to what is right and wrong by their desire to be seen as politically correct or inclusive?

I speak for myself here that what I despise are paedophiles and groomers. I want all to be brought to justice. I could not care less the race or religion of someone who exploits vulnerable children for sex. That some seem to attach particular venom to Muslim paedophiles is what I consider racist, and it pollutes our politics and our media.

I agree, but you should remember that in this instance, the race of the purpotrators has been highlighted by the authorities who chose to ignore their crimes based precisely on their race.

It isn’t that bizarre. Sexual crimes are underreported and conviction rates are low because those in authority are predisposed to not believe the victims. Factor in social class and the racial element and those who should have done something did what they invariably do and that is nothing.

There is always a ‘reason’ for not investigating or prosecuting sexual assault cases and among the reasons in this case was a reluctance to face the racial aspect of the case.

A very sad few decades in the country’s history. Hot on the heels of the Catholicism scandal. Not sure about an inquiry myself. They tend to take ages and not manage to grip anyone. They also cost a fortune. Instead i’d give that money to the victims to use to pursue private prosecutions against the organisations that failed them

And if we reach the position where the race and religion of the criminal are inconsequential, and people are arrested, tried, prosecuted and sentenced with no regard to it, and no political capital made from it, then we will reach the right place.

It’s overwhelmingly clear in the majority of these cases being talked about, in places like Rochdale most of the rapists were from Pakistani and Asian backgrounds and they were targeting vulnerable white girls.

As you said it’s bizarre that people even now are basically downplaying girls being raped because they’re scared of being called racist

Wtf is wrong with them

Council members and social services not wanting to report little girls being raped out of fear of being called racist.

What the fck is wrong with those people. I’m actually lost for words how sickening this is.
And in the name of racial harmony.

Anyone allowing it to happen , for whatever reason, should be named, shamed and imprisoned

It’s shocking and heads should roll but this isn’t really new news. I think it was the Rotherham case in particular - but not just there - where stuff got ignored/swept under the carpet because of a fear of being called racist.

The perpetrators in the Rochdale scandal only got brought to justice because of the work of Maggie Oliver and Nazir Afzal who just happens to be a British-Pakistani Muslim.

Regardless of Afzals skin colour, ethnicity or any of the other shit....I should hope he did!!!
Why are you citing that individual? It's almost as if you are implying that simply due to his ethnicity etc etc etc he should be given a pat on the back! Why??
People are pretty much the same...yes?

Something i recommend people who really want to understand this have a look into, is the issues that come with the Mirpuri pakistanis. I would put money that the vast majority of the men involved in the grooming gangs are from that region. I know this from Pakistani friends who fucking detest them, partly because most of the bad stereotypes of Pakistanis is because of that exact crowd and they get lumped in with them. We had serious issues with them and their kids being complete bastards towards my daughter when she was in primary school in Levenshulme, but so did everyone who wasn't exactly like them, including British born pakistanis, and the black kids got it the worst (they were significantly in the majority at her school and i know for a fact the problems there haven't stopped). Really grim ultra religious zealots.

Saying all of this as this nuance is really fucking important and i hope it starts to get discussed more. Pakistan's a big place, it's the lot from Mirpur who are almost entirely causing all of this shit.

Not sure anybody didn’t want the truth uncovered/investigated, they just didn’t need the latest social media campaign to demand X to be announced at their behest.

No one knows what has made the necessity for a national inquiry to be needed now, but not before.

What we do know is that it hasn’t been instigated by populist social media grifters.

Still, it’s telling that most on here haven’t concentrated on the inquiry beginning as the topic has never been about the victims for them, merely point scoring.

It’s another example where the government have listened and changed their policy. To their detractors, that shows weakness and an avenue for attack.

Yet, they’ve got what they’ve wanted all along, but don’t focus on that.

It’s as if the inquiry wasn’t that important to them.
Really.
Back in January you were insistent that a new enquiry would achieve nothing.
Are you still of the same opinion ?
