Guardian interview with Guardiola

I was at that event and managed to meet Pep briefly. I said to him "Pep, are you going to win us the title again this year?" He seemed to wince a bit, to which I then said " have you considered playing Ysya again?". He gave me a 'look', let's leave it at that! He is a genuinely down to earth guy, very cool and seems to have no airs or graces. If our players cannot up their game and perform for this man then we have a problem.

Fascinating video of Cruyff talking tactics. You can see where how Pep is his protegé.

Over here in Melbourne and we have another Cruyff protégé. Chalk and cheese.

Don't know about that. Looking at what Pep achieved at Barca you would have thought he would stick around there for a long time but things can quickly change in football, just like they did for Cruyff at Ajax. Towards the end of his time, Pep had had enough and looked more under pressure than at any time during his managerial career. The wrangling behind the scenes with the likes of Rosell obviously had an effect on him.

Difference is that Pep is cule through & through plus Catalan to boot. Presidents/boards come & go, no doubt about his return.

In that article, Pep says of Cruyff, "He created something from nothing and you have to have a lot of charisma and personality. Everybody knows about football but you need the charisma to say: ‘You must go in that way’ and everybody follows. That’s so difficult to find". With City he more or less has a blank canvas to impose himself on the club and create something new. Pep realises that much of what was put in place at Barca was done so by Cruyff. I get the feeling he wants to be a trailblazer, not a follower, and he has the help of a couple of his best mates in place to help him do it. I can understand why you're nervous though.

I'm not nervous at all, it's a certainty. More like wishful thinking on your part as he's already blazing a trail away from Barcelona. Let's not forget he has already talked about wanting to coach a NT, not sure how that will fit with your blank canvas fantasy at City

All guesswork now , but i have a feeling he will move to Italy after his stint with city comes to an end. He keeps on talking about Arrigo Sacchi's milan side during a lot of his interview , so i wont be surprised if he moves there. Then to a national team ( Brazil ??? , remember Dani Alves saying something along the line). I think he will retire around 55-57 years and coach youngster in Barcelona's academy......

Why the fuck would you ask him about Yaya?! No wonder he gave you a 'look.'

Of course but he has pretty much stayed to his word in all situations/jobs he's held. Serie A seems a long shot IMHO due to the doping accusations and dubious goings on in Italy, Sacchi aside. Brasil would've been interesting but the Seleção isn't likely to change it's position from avoiding foreign coaches. Argentina & Mexico are options that would intrigue, hoping for the latter but the AFA is just as bad as the Seleção - of course, perhaps Leo will have some leverage once Bauza inevitably disappoints
