Guardiola to Axe Kompany (Various Sources)

I don't believe Vinny has been match fit for three weeks because if he was he would have played as he is the best player in the back four when fit bar none. Pep has no reason not to play him.

It is going to be a sad day but I fear it is over for him and even his biggest fans must know that deep down. He has hardly played for two years now and is not getting any younger. He is going to be a huge void to fill as a player, a man and a leader.

This is the main trait of the man that i think we'll miss the most. He wouldn't let heads go down
and people ease their way through a game, like we have done at times this season.

Bunch of fucking goons or not, we can all agree on one thing - Kompany has been a magnificent player for City and is thoroughly deserving of "legend" status based on his contribution to our hugely successful recent history. What wonderful memories he has helped to make!

Agreed. Especially that goal in THE 1 - 0.

Trouble is we don't know if he is any where near the vinny of old,he probably isn't now

Even at half the player he is still better and that is not sentiment or exaggeration either......

Ottomendi' decision making is terrible, one on one he is ok but not reliable...his best attribute for such a short centre half is his aerial ability...but still gets beaten on crosses far too often.....his distribution is average and again can cause us problems.....not bad at moving forward with the ball however...deccent turn of pace but mentally falls asleep as well. Not a leader

Stones.....a good passer of the ball (makes a lot of mistakes however), physically a lot weaker than Kompany and therefore gets bullied often and no where near as good one or one or in basic tackling or in the air. Mentally good but nowhere near leadership level yet

Kolarov - slow as hell, average in the air, positionally suspect and can only use one foot. His passing is exceptional esp between the lines but he cant defend and is weak in the tackle. No leadership skills whatsoever. As a fullback he is simply terrible.

Kompany is better in the air than all of them, probably equally as quick as all of them f not quicker, a stronger tackler, better one on one and positionally astute. A natural leader.
The only aspect anyone is better at than him is Kolarov and his passing (but Kompany's passing is pretty damn good as well)

If Kompany cant come back and is to be replaced we need to buy at least two centre halves (possibly to make one of those players capt as well - unless Zabba stays and was to play regularly which I cant see)

Current player via explayer.

If you look back to page one you'll see I think Kompany should be given a chance to prove himself for what it's worth.

Cheers

I think the club will give him the chance......but he needs to be tested at some point......by next week as long as he doesn't pull up in training it would be 3 weeks back......The only problem is that ideally we would give him sub appearances but in the 3 games we have coming up I cant see Pep (understandably) wasting a sub space on him and he certainly won't start him and take the risk of having to sub him off and again waste a sub.

So that would be 6 weeks of full training after the next 3 very tough games.....hopefully that will be enough (if he doesn't pull up again) to convince Pep that he can play again....

I have a question for everyone.
if, I know its an if, vinny has been fit for 3 weeks why would the genius let clichy of kolorov anywhere near a starting place?

my view is that a 10% fit vinny is better than those two together.

I know this is hard to believe, but when you read between the lines Pep is simply saying Kompany is the 4th choice CB.

Not because of injury or fear he might pull-up, but simply on performance. This whole "I'm just trying to make sure he is ready" is simply a rouse and a soft way to break the news to the dreamy eyed City fandom and a bit of a show of respect to a legend.

But the truth is Pep has never thought of Kompany as first choice. At 1 time he had hoped Komps would try to earn that spot. But at least for months now its been clear that he doesn't think Kompany is starting material.

It is painful to say, but from what Pep says and does its clear what he thinks. Ota is the best defender, Stones is his future, and Kolarov is the only Left sided CB on the squad and the best long ball passer. Kompany is the best at nothing under Pep, and is the odd man out.

Not out of fear of injury. Just simply out. He is 4th choice.

Whether you think today's Kompany is good or not is fine, but Pep clearly doesn't. And just seems to be doing his best not to spill the beans.

But that is the million dollar question. Where is Vinny at ?
