Guardiola to Axe Kompany (Various Sources)

Kompany may have been training for the last two weeks, but presumably he's far off being fully match fit which is why Guardiola was reluctant to risk him in an FA Cup quarter final or a CL knock out game.

Of course, it begs the question how will he regain match fitness if he's not picked, and it becomes a vicious circle.

I'm not surprised that Guardiola is reluctant to put his full faith in him though, given his recent injury record. If he breaks down after 10 minutes then your plans are severely disrupted.

He's been a magnificent servant for the club, but even the most ardent Blues must harbour serious doubts about his ability to remain injury free for a significant length of time.

Martin Blackburn, James Ducker, and several others reporting that Vinny's one of the highest profile casualties of Pep's clean broom this summer.

I appreciate that this is sort of transfer related and also related to Kompany so could be in a player thread, but I feel it deserves it's own thread in the main forum. Vinny's been a fantastic servant to the club and deserves a warm send off at the end of the season. But Pep's doing the right thing in letting him go. He clearly doesn't trust him to play as he's been fit for weeks again and you can't have a player taking a first team spot on sentiment.
If he's not fit enough to play for us, he's not fit to play anywhere. He forms part of the conversation about best centre back on the planet. When he plays, we feel like the team can take on the very best in Europe. When he goes off in a game, you can see the confidence drop in the team. At the moment, I can't contemplate City without him. Whoever plays alongside him at centre back puts in a better performance because Vinnie directs them - virtually a player coach. He will manage us one day. We've had some great centre backs at City, but not only is Vinnie the best ever, he's the best by a long long way. You say he's been a fantastic servant - he's a few notches up on that.
Love Vinny but Pep's right time to split

Heart says no but head says yes

Hopefully one day he will return in some capacity but his day's of performing regular at the highest level have long gone.

It's also psychological problem for Vinny having so many injuries.
Of that group of players who have become legends - Sergio, Yaya, Zaba and Silva, Vinnie is the dominant legend. Hard to contemplate City without Vinnie and those guys. They're all good guys.

Maybe thats why he said he'd be playing for Belgium, wishful thinking he'd get a fitness test at their expense. He'll have to be risked at some point though, because without a run of games to the end of the season he cant be risked as our main centre back option next season

As someone said to me today, if VK was on the pitch, even at 50% fitness, he would be able to encourage & mentor Stones to be more courageous & would teach him a lot of strategies that can't be taught on the training pitch. If VK is fit he should be on that pitch on Sunday! We need a leader on the pitch.

I adore vinny as well but as pep said he can't risk him breaking down and using up a sub,it's happened a few times now,it's not difficult to grasp if you put emotions to the side

I have a question for everyone.
if, I know its an if, vinny has been fit for 3 weeks why would the genius let clichy of kolorov anywhere near a starting place?

my view is that a 10% fit vinny is better than those two together.
Because Kolarov has compromising pics of the Sheikh, I thought that was well established.

Its not a case of being 50% or any other % age fit for 90 minutes is it. When he's on the pitch he looks 100% fit. But after ten minutes can break down and has to go off. We cant go into games thinking we might have to make a change in the first few minutes, or holding back a change because he could break down after 70 minutes.

you get what i'm saying though, if fit why leave him out? I feel so sorry for john stones.

Yeah but no sorry, leadership is at a minimum right now.

Look what happened to Nastasić, a Kompany led Stones Nasty defence would be the future

New defence, leave the goalie, who'd be a manager?
