Guardiola to Axe Kompany (Various Sources)

Yeah but that's not what's been happening has it? When has anyone said "he gets things wrong sometimes" and then been jumped on by the forum?

constantly.....the moment someone dares suggest Pep (or Pellers) may have got something wrong they are hounded by the same individuals......I have no problem with people having a different opinion but its the way its done and it gets personal....

Plenty are slagging him off. The idea that Pep cannot or doesn't understand defending is a mainstream opinion here.

well i aint mine

my opinion is that the quality of defenders he has at his disposal is nowhere near god enough to defend the way he wants and at how at times it necessitates with he way he sets his teams up.

He must play some small test games as part of training, the last injury was in training,i can't blame pep for being hesitant in playing him

And it goes both ways. I'd have more respect for some of them if they didn't play victim.

No you're building a strawman.

If you want to talk about Pep's performance then fine. So do I and presumably FI. BillyShears has a whole podcast where he's critical of Pep and in fact gets slagged off for being TOO critical by people.

The thing that pisses me off is that some people have a starting place in their logic that he's wank. Bill's constant sneering towards who is seen by the non-City friendly media as the best manager on the planet is ridiculous. Same with many others. This "HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING, HE FLUKED EVERYTHING AT BARCA AND FAILED AT BAYERN!" is also ridiculous.

The difference between us and them is that we generally start from a place that Guardiola knows what he's doing due to the about fifty fucking trophies he's won in 7 years of management. We think that if something does wrong then it's worth thinking about what he was trying to achieve, what did or didn't work, and plan from that. What we don't do is say his entire system of football is wrong and here's what he should have done instead gleamed from years of experience I have about football from being a bricklayer in Blackley.

For the record, people used to say the exact thing you've said about me when I talked about Hughes, Mancini and Pellegrini. In fact I had arguments with Billy over Mancini and FI over Pellegrini. These people are at the very very top of the game that's inhabited by millions of people. You don't get there by being a clueless buffoon. You presume that they know what they're doing as a starting point and jump off from that.

Doing the opposite thing where you presume he doesn't know what he's doing is what gets me sneering and looking down my nose at people. This guy isn't just talented, he's the top 1% of the 1% and has the trophies to prove it. He deserves to be given a bit of respect for that.
It's a good post but I would also come back at that to say that due to relationships out here I've spent a bit of time in a social setting with former PL managers (notably two or three English managers) and been absolutely shocked by some of their logic when discussing football in general and matches they'd just watched and been pundits for. To the point where they make Merson look like Ancelotti.

To be fair they weren't the top 1% of 1% (hence them being out of work and turning up for £10k per day filming - cash in hand) but these are guys that are never out of work very long and command seven figure salaries every time they return on the manager carousel.

I'm positive there must be tens of managers in the league pyramid and on-league with far more football and tactical knowledge that these idiots but lack the history of having played to a higher standard.

If the forwards had done their job we'd still be in the Champions League

I agree with what you said about Kompany: we can't assess his current ability as we haven't seen him.

Regarding the rest of the defenders, I think Stones and Kolarov are the only players that City will want to retain. The goalkeeping issue is also massive. Look at the points Schmeichel wins for Leicester. I am hoping that Bravo will come good. I like WIlly but I am not sure he would be my No.1 keeper.

No one knows if this is true. We haven't seen him play enough the last 3 years to conclude this.

based on previous he is....of course he may have been affected by the constant injuries (I would be surprised if he hadn't been) but the doesn't detract from the fact that those in place at present (and in particular Ottomendi, Kolarov clichy) simply are not good enough......I know Kolarov has got better but that isn't saying much, Ottomendi is far to much of a headless chicken with no leadership skills and dives in all over the place....Clichy is not good enough going forward for Pep. Add to this zabba getting on.

There is a huge rebuilding job on Peps hands.....and thats even bigger if we do need to replace Kompany....I would say replacing him is of secondary importance as we need to replace the ones that are playing regularly. Kompany has had no impact on our season at all.....the defence woes come down to the ones playing who simply are poor.

And it goes both ways. I'd have more respect for some of them if they didn't play victim.

the code of conduct says it shouldn't get personal...end of.

If people cant come on here and see things they don't agree with and not get personal then they should not be on here. I have made the odd mistake in that at times but it gets ridiculous the way some people are hounded (and its the same culprits all the time)...i don't get it bad and i don't really care but some of the abuse some posters get goes way beyond

if the defenders had done theres likewise....think stones against Falco int he first leg, Kolarov for the third in the second leg.....it works both ways....we score goals regularly (yes we miss way too bigger a % as well) but if we cut out the mistakes nearly every time the an opponent gets through then we would win.

The goal keeping issue is a huge issue as you say. I feel a little sorry for WC as he has tried to step up and has done....but he is only ever a back up keeper. Bravo looks shit I'm afraid......he doesn't want to be here its written all over him. He hasn't adapted to the league or maybe even the country (its been seen before with top class players coming over to the prem and they just don't adapt to life in general and it affects them)side qualities are

Stones will be retained of course....If Kolarov is then I hope its only as a back up cause he is so poor ..his passing is fantastic but his defensive qualities are shocking. I wouldn't be surprised to see him exploited today by Mane for liverpool if he plays centre half (or at fullback) If i was an opposition manager I would be telling by attackers to press him at every opportunity and to play off of him a he is the single biggest weakness we have.
