Guidetti

BBC Teletext reporting that 'Celtic's hopes of signing John Guidetti seem to be scuppered' - which sort of avoids the fact that they scuppered their own hopes by signing someone else instead. Anyway this looks interesting:

CELTIC could not push through the transfer of the one player who arrived at Parkhead on the final day of the transfer window - but managed to sign another player who failed to turn up.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell started the day in bitterly disappointed mood after Serbia forward Stefan Scepovic pulled out of a move.

Lawwell then targeted Manchester City striker John Guidetti, who arrived at Celtic Park for talks.

Guidetti, who scored 20 goals in 23 appearances for Feyenoord on loan in 2011-12 before injury derailed his career, remained at Parkhead in the evening but a loan deal for the 22-year-old Swede was not completed before the deadline.

And now the Hoops are set to got to UEFA and claim extenuating circumstances prevented them from lodging the paperwork in time.

One scenario is that the Swedish striker could negotiate his release from Manchester City, which would make him a free agent and thus able to sign for Celtic outwith the transfer window.

Guidetti has spent five years with City, but is yet to make a first-team appearance.

Scepovic U-turn

Scepovic revived his interest in a move to Celtic and signed the contract that had been prepared for him after he passed a medical and secured a work permit in Paris at the weekend as the clock ticked down towards the end of the window.

The 24-year-old, who joined in a £2 million-plus deal from Sporting Gijon, had seen an alternative move to Getafe fall through because of Spanish financial fair play rules.

Celtic did release four strikers with Amido Balde joining Beveren on loan for the season and Teemu Pukki and Holmbert Fridjonsson both moving to Danish side Brondby in similar deals. Bahrudin Atajic, who made four first-team appearances, was released.

Celtic held on to Virgil van Dijk on the day the defender earned his first Holland call-up for a friendly against Italy and a European Championship qualifier against the Czech Republic.

But another player leaving Celtic was Dylan McGeouch, who moved to Hibernian on loan until the end of the season but the Easter Road side failed in a bid for Leigh Griffiths.

This Kid might end up being as good as Sturridge. We need to be a little more patient with the young ones.
you can't be serious. if Guidetti was at Utd, we would ridicule him as being very shit. Guidetti will never make it with us. That should be crystal clear.

Maybe he was referring to Dean Sturridge?

Lazy journalism.

Some people on here need to get a grip. The lad had a horrific illness that nearly ended his career, he has struggled to regain the level he had before this point and it must be emotionally devastating . People should go and read Paul Lakes book before criticizing.

Guidetti is good enough to play in domestic cups and maybe that will spur him on and take some pressure off the main 3, it will take a miracle for him to get back to the level he was at when he went to feyenoord but it may happen, but to do it he needs game time and patience, I doubt he will get that here but some of the language on here is pretty low.

+1
I'd say it applies to all of our "deadwood" as people keep referring to them. I hate that term and it should never be applied to any City player.
That said I think he should be looking at a Championship loan (Sinclair too) when the window opens on the 8th and get some game time.

What does that mean? The opposition in the cup games could be tougher than half of the teams we play in the league. Does this not matter when its a knockout game? Are the cups not as important? He is either good enough to warrant a place in the squad, or he isn't. Personally I don't think he is, and I think 90% of the forum share the same opinion. And the fact he hasn't played since his debut, despite being around the squad for a while, suggests the management agree.

it was a rushed post and I didn't think I would have to spell out every permutation, It means early on cup matches when fringe players usually get a match allowing 1st teamers to have a rest.

The fact that Pellegrini wants to sell him despite being an admirer a few seasons back suggests he wont get any game time and isn't up to the task of getting over his illness. so even back up 4th striker looks to be too much. but it doesn't change the fact that some of the insults and critizism thrown his way is out of order.

Perhaps the hierarchy have a feeling of deja vu as they did with Michael Johnson,so how long do you give someone a chance to prove himself.
Hell if he could hardly get any playing time for Stoke, then its hardly surprising that teams from either the PL or Championship teams are banging on the door to take him off our hands.
Just maybe, the Club sees something differently behind closed doors.Perhaps he`s built up his own hype too much.
Insults and criticism are part of any forums & threads make-up,but I`ve yet to see anything on this thread where people are actually calling him names.
Thicken your skin out as no player is exempt from criticism.
