Guitar thread

Got a guitar for Christmas, have messed around with it a bit but don't know where to start in terms of teaching myself properly.

Any ideas? :)

justinguitar.com beginners course should do the job for you.

My advice is to practise for short periods - no more than half an hour - but every day to start with to allow the skin on your fingers to toughen up.
Also no matter what anyone tells you there is one simple rule when learning the guitar
'the more you practise the better you will become' Easy!

Can't find my pics at the moment but currently playing a US Fender Tele and Mustang.

I'll try to get pics up asap, considering ordering the new (ish) Johnny Marr signature from Fender.

All the majors have crossed my mind. Gibson, Martin, Taylor, Guild, Takamine. Also been looking at some of the more obscure smaller brands. I know 2 grand's a lot of cash but about right for the kind of guitar I'm after. I'm thinking high end. It needs to be the kind of guitar I'll still be playing in thirty years. Spending all day on youtube researching models but I suppose I won;t know my guitar until I fell it in my arms. Can hardly wait.

Maton guitars are really nice. They're an Australian brand and something a little bit different than everyone else has. Not that easy to find although there are UK stockists.

Yeah, I've looked at Matons as well. Neil Finn uses them so they must be good. Interesting woods, I suppose. It's a decision I'm not taking lightly. Need to pick up a few and get stuck in. Played my mate's Taylor a few months back and fell in love, so I'm leaning towards them at the minute. On a side note, I wonder if anyone's got a resonator? Wouldn't mind getting one at some point.
Mrs.D.D. just bought me a resonator for my birthday,Fender, jet black, beautiful.Play a lot of bottleneck and it really gives you that Cooder sound.

Looks like i have bought the "Blue Nun" of guitars compared to you lot, $175, still you have to start somewhere. It's a "Martinez".

No such thing as a blue nun mate (it's actually quite drinkable)

My first guitar was a £30 Encore in apple red. Shit colour, shit action and it was electric so I made my own amp from a Panasonic seperates system and a speaker!

and for those interested, models show are:

700C in Mapleglo, 450 in Burgundyglo, 360C63/12 in Fireglo, 360/12 in Blueburst, 381V69/12 in Mapleglo, 700C in Fireglo, 330/6 in Montezuma Brown, 325C64 in Jetglo, 660/12 in Fireglo, 370/6 in Burgundyglo, 360V64/12 in Mapleglo, 650C in Montezuma Brown.

Good lord, you lucky bastard!

Nicest guitar I've owned was a '65 Fender Jaguar, mint. Payed @ 560$ for it in 1991. Made a fair bit off it, but have always regretted selling her.
