Gundogan - Back training 26th June '17

Life's not fair sometimes.
Don't envy his next 6 months but trust he will come back from this to be an important player for us again.
Real pity.
Best wishes Illy.

doesnt say which cruciate ligament. Does that matter as far as recovery time and recovery ability?

Assume it's ACL as PCL can be treated by bracing and not surgery.

I've spoken to a sports rehabilitator who tells me that when Gundogan dislocated his knee cap the chances are it will have brought the ACL forward, making it far more susceptible to an impact injury. They've also told me that if it's a complete rupture the treatment will be a graft taken from the hamstring, which then may lead to a weakened hamstring and problems in the future

Here's a video of some pioneering ACL treatment. However I doubt that at the moment a club would risk a multi million pound investment with the new treatment

Yeah, I didn't think it was a foul at the time either. Just saw some people on here saying it was a bad challenge.
It definitely wasn't intentional as far as injuring him is concerned, but he had no chance at all to actually get to the ball before Gundogan after losing it and simply clattered into him to stop City's chance of an attack. It was innocuous but certainly 100% avoidable.

time waits for nobody and getting back into the first team will be his aim and goal but sometimes you lose your place or somebody comes in its part of being a footballer. sad news and every time i heard this happening to city players paul lake stands out. a player that had the world at his feet but lost the battle to it and his book is a must read and the battles he had from the first time it happened to letting go so so sad

Cheers for the info mate....I now understand why many questioned signing him while injured with a dislocated knee cap, not just because of the injury itself but for the reasons you mentioned....clearly the weakness was there and the chances of new injuries to the same knee were high. I hope he comes back stronger than ever as a lot of respect for him since he joined in the summer but the questions over his fitness at the time of signing will be even stronger now and to count on him being 100% for pre-season training would be another big risk we cant afford to take. Doing nothing to replace him (and the fullback/CB positions) could push us back even further in the squads development. Clearly Pep needs more to work with, to allow his system to work, not less....

cheers for the post, found it really interesting...

His hamstrings tendons have probably already been harvested to reconstruct the medial patello-femoral ligament when he had his knee cap stabilisation in May. They do reform.
Don't buy the stuff about his ACL being bought forward by his previous surgery...
He's just been really unlucky with this one.
He will probably have a patella tendon graft anyway for his ACL reconstruction it provides a stronger graft that the hamstring tendons. Depends on surgeon choice that.

Whilst hindsight is a wonderful thing and no doubt he is a world class player but when fit. Given his injury history and the types of injuries he has had was this a risky signing?

Do you think a random bloke on the internet knows more than our state of the art medical team and the money men who have invested millions into him,he has been unlucky that's all
