Gundogan - Back training 26th June '17

When I did my ACL it was exactly the same challenge, collapse, realisation something tore, no great pain, think it might be something minor, try running it off, knee doesn't quite feel right, realisation its something more serious.
Only way to know for sure is a scan. But the physics will have a good idea they've seen plenty before. Hope its not and feel gutted for the lad but at least the surgeons know how to fix it these days when I did mine about the same time as Lakey did his they were still pissing about trying to find a gold standard surgical fix.
 
Can everyone just cut it out with the "I told you sos" and "this is why he was only £20m" and "his career is over." NOBODY EVEN KNOWS WHAT THE PROGNOSIS IS YET.

Still haven't heard a single expert say at any point that the dislocated kneecap he suffered was likely to cause any kind of ongoing issue or threaten his career. As gruesome as it sounds, from what i can gather it's far from the worst kind of knee injury one can suffer. Clearly the club medics were satisfied on that point too.

His back injury was probably the most concerning and yet there's been no hint of that causing any further problems and it certainly has nothing to do with this.

This new injury is a completely separate thing and could have happened to ANYONE whether they had a history or not.

Feels like a few people take smug satisfaction in this kind of thing when they've made some vague prediction months earlier based on having no insight into the real facts.

Not sure I disagree with that. But there have been some big exceptions too, when he has looked world class.

I think we still lack the athleticism, to play the way Pep would like, & Gundogan isn't quite the answer in some cases, alongside this particular group. We often need a 2nd Fernandinho, not a Gundogan.

But if the whole team gets very close to doing what Pep asks in each situtaion, the lack of athletes will be less important & the cleverness of Gundogan etc, come to the fore.

I'm still clinging to the (slim) hope that it's only Bild who have reported that he'll miss the rest of the season so far. Presumably Guardiola will give an official update at today's press conference.

It is different German media that tells it is a torn cruciate ligament (so they tell the club has not announced it yet) and that would mean he is out that long.

Khedira, who was very fast, had his November 15th 2013 and came back in team training mid/end of April 2014 (he was in time for CL final and World Cup like this - but not for top form in them) - so about mid May would be the fastest he could back. Does not help to rush it like this as the season by then is over. He for sure should be back for the training start of next season.

The problem with coming back from cruciate ligament injuries is usually that some muscle injuries follow in the season after - but Gündogan until now was not prone to muscle injuries.

It's not looking good but shit happens. He may well miss the rest of the season. It doesn't mean we bought a crock like some are making out. Could've been anyone and hopefully he'll bounce back.
 
Was not expecting that! Especially as he walked off. Poor guy, explains why he was so emotional, he must have known.

I remember when you were about to sign him a lot of people were talking about him not being the same ever since he got an injury.

Used to be even more highly praised than he is now.

No this is unlucky,aside from his back which was fixed ages ago he had dislocated kneecap and not much else of note

But it does bring home that it was a piss poor transfer window to add to previous ones, in terms of improving us this season.

Bravo....totally unnecessary purchase.
Ilkay...injured when we signed him and injured now, obviously would have benefitted us this season if he'd stayed fit.

Guardiola refused to blame the Watford player for the injury at today's press conference: "The action of the opponent was correct. It was an unlucky situation."
