I disagree. They see both Ozil and Gundogan as German.

Disagree all you want mate, that’s fine, according to all the football fans I’ve chatted with (my other half’s Dad has lived there the past 20 years, we’ve spent 2 months there in the last 18, so have spoken to plenty all over) , Gundogan is very much considered one of their own, in fact, there was a time he was criticised by Germans for calling Erdogan “my president”, they adore him ( and Ozil).

I worked in Ankara during covid, the few Turks I spoke to about football referred to him as German.
It matters not a jot what I think, he’s a fucking beautiful Mancunian , that’s the main thing.

No worries mate, just comes down to our own experiences, which seem very different.
