Wiki says he's played 105 league games over 5 seasons. That's OK.

Not ideal for a player to miss a pre-season and start of season under a new coach in a new league. That will make it very difficult to settle in.

Does help your cause if that new coach signed you when you were crocked!

This signing makes 100% sense even with the injury.

He's going to cost around £16m, which is a steal for a German international, and he'll be back fit for the end of October, bearing in mind there's a two week international break in September, he'll probably only miss 7-8 games

Even if there as any delay it would also serve the purpose of freshening things up over the back half of the season.
