Gustavo shits on Garcia, Barry, Milner and Rodwell.

I say get him (if available) and jib Garcia.

He is not better than Rodwell.

At this moment in time he is.

I disagree. Rodwell has had fitness problems so there have not been enough opportunities to really impress. I believe he is a better player with a wider skill set but Gustavo is more experienced.

That's what it feels like in this part of the forum. There are a lot of good posts, drowned in a sea of bullshit that isn't even speculation. People are just throwing names in.

At City there is:
Fernandinho
Yaya
Rodwell
Milner
Barry
García
Razak

If all of those are injured or suspended Kompany or Zabaleta can play there. Even then there are probably lads in the EDS who can step up.

Doesn't matter whether he is or isn't. I'd rather have Rodwell and let him develop into a better player than Gustavo will ever be. I rate Rodwell very highly, he's still young, he needs game time to improve and shoving him further down the pecking order for someone who is barely (if he even is at all - it is very debatable) better than him when we already have Fernandinho Yaya and loads of other cover in this area of the pitch, makes no sense.

It's the same reason I want to see Nastasić remain as first choice centre half. At 19 (he's now 20) he was the best teenage centre half I'd ever seen. He's not anywhere near his peak yet but he will only reach his absolute best at his peak if he plays games while he's developing.

You really want Razak in the team? Milner isn't a holding midfielder either. Barry is the only true destroyer we have and he's slow and not getting any younger. Gustavo is a clear improvement over him. Let's not be afriad to improve the team because we "hope" one of our guys developes into a quality player.

Sub-categorize them and it's more:

Box-to-box: Yaya, Fernandinho, Rodwell, Milner

Disciplined defensive: Garcia, Barry

Not quite sure what Razak is, seems more of a dynamic box-to-box midfielder except he can't seem to retain possession very well.

We're loaded with quality central midfielders who can get forward but lack a really high-end disciplined holding midfielder - maybe Fernandinho will be converted into one, but that would waste his excellent attacking and dribbling ability. Rodwell is tenacious and could probably stay back too but he has a knack of turning up in goal scoring positions like Lampard, which is a rare quality for a non-attacking midfielder. Yaya certainly isn't an effective destroyer/breaker of play.

Honestly if we sell anyone, serious contemplation has to be made regarding Barry. He's not getting younger or quicker and more and more he's relying on professional fouls. He's also had severe problems when pressed the past year.

That said, I'm content with our squad as is at the moment. We should only buy if people are moving on. And no, I'm not talking about everyone's personal wishlist outgoings no matter who they are. I don't care whom you dislike. Let the manager evaluate.

If we face a club like Bayern or Real Madrid in the CL, do you want this or Barry?

Not a difficult choice.

It isn't about Rodwell.

Rodwell will get plenty games regardless.

Gustavo is better than Garcia, Barry, Milner and Razak. That's what it's about.

Are you genuinely saying you wouldn't rather see Gustavo in the squad than Razak and Garcia?

-- Sun Jul 21, 2013 8:14 pm --

What are these skills Gustavo lacks that Rodwell has?
