Hacienda-Happy 30th Birthday

When house boomed and Ecstasy flooded the club the Hac was absolutely the best place on earth - 1988 and 1989. As said above, the gangs moved in, the bouncers got hard and a lot of the E, and the vibe, was squeezed out of the club.

When that happened Konspiracy was pretty damn rocking but had a darker edge than the Hac.

Haha. still got that Colourbox World Cup theme on 12in vinyl, must dig it out for a spin

Why that wasn't a worldwide hit is still a mystery to me...

If you're reading this and have never heard this tune, then go to You Tube and search it immediately!

Some cracking bits of nostalgia. Shows you what I know - I always thought it was the 633 Squadron at the end of the Ritz!

As for Hacienda had some superb nights in there and saw some very good gigs - The Fall, Happy Mondays (Hillsborough gig plus following night was an AIDS benefit if memory serves), Stone Roses, Cabaret Voltaire (90's not 84 gig), Spacemen Three all off the top of my head.

The Konspiracy was like a Victorian tea room compared to the Thunderdome and Hippos.

It was a fucking insane asylum.

Konspiracy, was that the one near or underneath the corn exchange, where when it first opened had a couple of rappers who used to go "this is not the hacienda" at irregular intervals while you were dancing away
