Happy crazy Kippax day.
Mental in there that game

Not arf.
That's how watching Football used to be.
The Kippax that day was bouncing .it was Mental.

I was in the North Stand. The thing I remember most was the noise when the second goal went in; thought my ear drums had burst, it was ear-bleedingly loud. I knew we were in for a good afternoon after that.

Yes.it twas the second goal.probably the loudest roar I've ever heard straight from our hearts.we were in .. .. Dreamland.....

I find it hard to describe the feeling of the 2nd goal.

i was in N block north stand about 3 rows from the top, first year we got season tickets as an 8yo.

heard a ricky hatton clip on the podcast at the weekend and he was saying he was in the north stand as well. what a day. its funny how my memory though is from the VHS Tyldseleys commentary “united are at sixes and sevens”

Well....we've done the 6...there is still time for us to beat utd 7-1!!

Managed to remain pitchside for whole match ...once we dealt with the unwashed in North Stand!

I love on the footage the dad n lad that are stood behind the goal pitch side, i can only presume they moved there after the mither.
They are both jumping about with unbridled joy when morley scores

The roar was already building, in expectation or whatever; it was like somebody turning the volume up slowly… then it reached ‘11’. My dad said it was the one and only time I jumped on him at the football! He said I was shaking him so hard he thought his teeth were gonna fly out (he had false teeth)! God, I miss him, and I miss going to the match with him…

Got me thinking about the next Maine Rd Derby match..season 1990/91. I was back on the Kippax for this one..

2-1 up at half time, but I remember the nerves amongst Blues at half time at the back of the Kippax,we all feared/ expected utd to comeback...and they did

We should never have taken Reid off late on ,3-1 up,bad mistake by Kendall.imo

Interesting to note only Steve Redmond and David White remained from the starting line up from The Maine Road Massacre..
Our hearts were broken.Great goal by Henry.

This was a more dogmatic / pragmatic City team ,in true Howard Kendall style....

My first ever Manchester Derby!
What a Day it was.i think the word is.. Volatile.
The Kippax was the place to be.i was on it.

Back in the day when fans used to celebrate goals properly and go mental...

My first ever derby day is a bit better than yours.
The date - 12 February 1955 - when we beat them 5 - 0 at their place.

Any blues on here remember playing utd in the pre season before this derby,
It was at old Trafford,
Remember my old man taking me but he doesn't remember.
Think it was a testimonial???

Went to Albiston's testimonial in 1988. Remember the Blues clapping him and his kid when he walked round the pitch at the end. Touch of class for those that recall the game.
Some fat Red in the seats above the paddock got pelters all through the game. Wierd the things that come back to you.

Was it better tho ...we were an established top level team then, going on to reach the fa cup final v Newcastle and having top household names in our side like Joe Fagan Ken Barnes Jimmy Meadows our record goal scorer Joe Hayes Roy Paul Dave Ewing and future player of the year Bert Trautmann

Id say the 1989 result was better with a team of home grown kids beating multi millionaires utd.

Just up from the old second division ,having just lost to 3 div division Brentford in the league cup and reliant upon journeymen players like Trevor Morley David oldfield and Andy Dibble and a load of kids
1989 was better imo as it was completely unexpected.....in 1955 we'd already beaten utd at home in front of 54k at Maine Road....we finished 7th that year..in 1989 we sank pretty quickly to the bottom of the league after beating utd..and had to be rescued by Kendall..

Went crazy for each goal :-)

Used to do that regularly from the Kippax.
Go into the St John’s room with a sore arm, get a quick bandage and walk out the other door into the North Stand..

A couple of reasons the scoreline was better for me - it was only my second live game (living in NZ in 1989 so I cannot count that one amongst mine); and second, we didn't allow them to score.
I have other special derby victories that I attended - for example, beating them in the game where Colin Bell was crippled and the Denis Law back heel match that helped relegate them.

Me and my sister still quote "2 Nil up and fucked it up", glad to hear we're not the only ones to remember (and be haunted!) by that! The 3 of us were on the kippax that game, me my mum and sister rather than just me and mum, was dreamland being 2-0 up.

As for the 5-1, it made me fancy the pants off David Oldfield, football's answer to Jason Donovan ;) My first Maine Road game was 85 but we weren't season ticket til 92 so I wasn't at the 5-1 (booooo) but would listen religiously to gmr commentaries with my scrapbooks and all the kid fandom you could have back then. I lived that game, every second. It had been a tough few weeks personally so that was such a brilliant release that life seemed more normal again the day after. Amazing what stuffing the rags can do.

Though as others have said letting a 3-1 lead fall back to 3-3 the following season was a kick in the teeth. But..... we still had the 5-1!!! Chance at the far post.........

I am not disputing your comments - simply stating why I like the 1955 scoreline.
We all have our favourite games which I respect, especially when I have only seen those games through the media.

Thanks for the good wishes.

I have two leaky heart valves - the procedure (cardiac catheterisation) involved putting a camera through veins and arteries in the groin and wrist to the heart to check for any other abnormalities. My blood flows are strong and no blockages meaning it is only the valves that need attention.

Supporting City since the 1950s certainly gives our hearts workouts!
