I expect the hardest players to play for City did so in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. I reckon Merideth in his prime would have been hard as fuck by today’s standards.

I wasn't there but my recollection was that there was always trouble and you had to be a bit wary. My older brother is a red and I can remember having a right old time ripping the piss out of him and my mum trying to keep the peace.

Another mention for Asa Hartford. He left so many opponents lying in pieces after 50:50 tackles.

In truth at most we have had the odd lad that definitely could handle him self on the pitch in the past twenty years. But no one truly worried the opposite team that a slapping could happen on or off the pitch if they tried to give us a kicking. And as a fan who's first City hero was Neil McNabb I'm not sure how I feel about that.
