Who is the hard man leader?

You never saw Keane act the hard man when he was playing against the likes of Big Duncan Ferguson, that’s for sure.

Still, Keane was definitely a good captain that demanded the absolute maximum from his team and had a lot of passion, I can respect that part. There’s not many real leaders like that around today. Just a shame he played for United, although it did end with him slagging off his team on their TV channel and walking out.

I know someone who worked with Roy Keane.

He said Keane could be a moody if he thought people were taking the piss.
And he wasn't a fake tough guy.
The likes of Schmeichel, and Cantona knew who was the captain and toed the line.

He was decent with the general staff at old Trafford,as were most of the players at United in that era, apparently.

Probably true. Despite who he played for and apart from a few incidents on the field, I could quite imagine he’s not a bad bloke in real life.

I can see why he said that Clough was the best manager he played for too. They strike me as similar characters, not so much in the way they speak or anything, being very passionate in winning but probably quite genial people in normal life and not into players being divas etc.

Him and Ferguson fell out because they were too alike, imo.

Ferguson as a manager,,for all his faults, knew what he wanted and how to attain it.
And again, the lad I knew at Old Trafford said he was a good boss who treated the staff the same as he did his players.

I vote Terry Hurlock, could play a bit too.

Aso Billy Whitehurst was supposed to be a bit tasty.

Brian kilcline was someone not to be messed with either by all accounts. Also meant to have been a very decent chap.

I’ll tell you who wasn’t a hard man but liked to portray himself as one. Kevin muscat. Some of the things he did on a football field were criminal.

Jones put in some pretty run challenges in that game.
Looked like keane or ince didn’t want to know. How on earth he didn’t get sent off though. Ha ha.
I know jones gets a lot of stick but I quite like him. Played the pantomime villain very well. Was limited and knew this but made a very decent career in football for himself.

A lad I played football with years ago asaid the hardest player he ever played against was a chap called billy whitehurst. Meant to have been a proper launatic.
Billy Whitehurst was a nutter and a decent journeyman centre forward
He got sent down for armed robbery if I'm not mistaken
I have vague memory of him playing against us at Maine Road in the early eighties I think a night game and I think he scored twice, he stood out to me as he was massive not in a tall way a bit like Akinfenwa way

Billy Whiehurst by a country Mile...even Vinnie Jones admitted this, but that big ugly fucker for Bayern with blonde hair was a bit scary too, I remember Keane shitting himself in one game against him..really found him out ! Effanberg was it ?
Billy Whitehurst is the man they all feared -I remember him being a bit of a Carthorse Striker who was mocked by the Kippax on every touch when he turned out at Maine Rd!!
We were all Safely on the Kippax

There was a rumour going around that Franny finished the job on Hunter later on after both were sent off.
I still find the McCreadie assault on Bremner in the fa cup final replay hilarious to this day.
Think you can safely say Chelsea were just as hard as that Leeds side if not harder.
The referee never even stopped the game!
