Harry due in court on Monday 23rd January 2012 (merged)

His defence is that he's infantile and can't organise himself.

We want this twat in charge of the England team?

Don't send him down just take all his money off him like they do with drug smugglers.

(The money they can find anyway)

If he really is as thick as it sounds when it comes to money, it won't be too difficult.
First place to look, under the bed. Second place, in the wardrobe. Third and final place, the biscuit jar

He has been charged cookie. I assume you mean convicted?

You can never tell with a jury tbh. I've never done it but my dad has and he said that the VAT fraud trial he sat on, the guys had obviously done it but the prosecution failed to make their case properly so had to find them not guilty.

Harry's defence is clearly going to be along the lines of I'm a chirpy little cockney and so everyone assumes I'm a bit of a jack-the-lad. Also all my life has been football and I'm not an accountant and aren;t clever enough to keep track of my affairs or know who I should be telling about what.

So he flew to Monaco, opened a bank account (in his dog's name), then Mandaric deposited £300k and Harry forgot to tell his accountant about it

How can you open an account in your dog's name and forget about it?

He is guilty, but as PB says, it's all about the way the prosecution proves their case
This will always be the bottom line for me. If I was on the jury, I wouldn't give a shit what kind of spin the barristers put on it. In one ear, out the other. Why the foreign bank account? Why the false name? The man's just a chancer and a spiv and the sooner sky and rags like the sun stop lauding him as a loveable cheeky-chappie the better. He isn't a patriotic, flag-waving embodiment of Englishness, he's tried to rob the public purse of 1000s of pounds. To me, he's no different than a large scale benefit thief.

What I don't get is neither of these is short of £30k or whatever the tax bill would have been so would they really take that risk ? Was it a trial run for a later larger transaction ? Did Mandaric want to get money out of the UK to avoid tax ? Is Harry daft enough to allow Mandaric to use his account to launder money ? Surely they would have a more sophisticated way of hiding money than just naming the account after his dog.

It's obvious good old arry is guilty. for me it's just a case of if the jury bottles it or not.

Yes.

Greed is the answer.

Arry was on a nice little backhander from Mandaric in relation to transfer fees. Not illegal, but he didn't exactly make a point of telling the Portsmouth fans he was on a cut of Peter Crouch's transfer fee, did he? He didn't want anyone to know about the account or the payments, and he had no intention of ever paying tax on them.

Ask yourself, if you will, this: if Arry is as financially inept as is being suggested, why was he able to give such a clear account to Rob Beasley (*spits*) of why he was entitled to the money in the Monaco account. He made it very clear to Beasley that they were commission payments that were due to him. That's why Beasley asked whether he'd paid the tax on them.

If Arry didn't think he was entitled to the money from Mandaric, why say 'I only got half of what I was due'.

If he had intended to pay the tax on the sum he received from Mandaric, why put the money anywhere than his own bank account? Why set up an account in Monaco (a tax haven) in his dog's name?

If Arry lets his accountant look after the numbers, why did he not tell his accountant about that four four years? Why not say next time he saw him 'oh, BTW I've opened a new account in Monaco in my dog's name, that you'll need to know about.'?

Good post Chris in London.

It would have been interesting to know what went on at Pompey, with Mandaric, Storrie and old Del Boy Redknapp running the show.......

By Harry's own admission, he's no wheeler dealer he's a fackin football manager
