Harry Kane

Genuine question, although it will never happen ever, what happens if a player scores a deliberate own goal? Do they get done in for match fixing?
If match fixing is proved, probably yes. If they do it because they hate the manager or want a transfer or any other reason why would they get done for match fixing ?

we have the mobility around him to do it, so if he mixes it up we have an out-and-out striker and a false 9 in 1 player, which is perfect if he nails down when to use it for us. Like with Spurs, it's him flipping in Son that is so lethal, then if Grealish, Raz, Mahrez, Gundogan, Foden are all on the shift it changes the picture. Other times he hogs the edge of the area and makes runs for us so he's on the end of it, leaving a space in the hole for Grealish, Foden, Gundogan to roam into whilst the centre-backs are pinned back. So many options.
I don't believe we do have the mobility around him, how many times last season were we moaning about the lack of players getting into scoring positions when we're in dangerous positions? All those situation where you hear " we would have scored if we had a striker" that's not going to be rectified if kanes playing playmaker on the centre circle

If Kane comes really deep, lays off a nice pass to kdb in that outside 8 area he likes to be in, he looks up for a potential first time forward pass and sees his striker and primary target behind him, what use is that? Him in that area doesn't give us anything new, he would be playing the false 9 position not as well as other midfield options and with less mobility.

With the exception of sterling (pre dogshit form) they all want to be on the ball far more than they want to be on the end of it. At Spurs, Kane is flanked by son and somebody else like moura or bergwijn, players you'd describe loosely as runners, Grealish wants the ball, as does foden as does KDB as does mahrez and bernardo, gundogan has shown he can do it and reap the rewards but with the likes of Grealish foden and kdb on the pitch I suspect he will be in a deeper role more often than not.

We're not going to spend over £100 million to solve the issue of a lack of presence in the box to then have him doing his best kdb impersonation in midfield. Kanes good at it, it works at Spurs because he is surrounded by players to make it work and spurs don't have anybody decent enough to do it instead of Kane. None of that applies here

Good point, maybe a red for unsportsmanlike conduct?
He'd get in a lot of trouble. A lot. It wouldn't be match fixing (unless he was manipulating the bookies with it) but conspiring to sabotage your own team in top level competition for the direct benefit of the side you're seeking to join is going to go down terribly.

Tottenham would throw the book at him (to put it mildly), the PL might look to bring sanctions and the FA would likely charge him for bringing the game into disrepute resulting in a long suspension. City would get dragged into on accusations of colluding, and also it's likely the transfer wouldn't happen either.

An example would have to be made of Kane to prevent repeats of this kind of thing. It's probably for the best he doesn't pull a stunt like that.

Maybe take a page out of De Vrij's book and give away a penalty instead.

Perhaps you're over thinking this, he will be in those 'striker' positions. It's when being in those positions isn't working when his all round game comes into play.

His ability to play a 1-2 with KDB and bang in an effort from 30 yards, or when on the edge of the area playing the Silva-esque slide rule pass to our wide players (something Sterling missed last season) add to this his ability to hold up the ball and knowing when to release it during counter attacks.

If he joins City he'll be doing that with far superior players around him, something he's never had before. It really is a scary prospect for the rest of the Premier League.

I don't think I'm overthinking anything. It's the classic "imagine that in our side" comment we often see without considering it not being useful/applicable to us. We see it constantly, the biggest example being with the fullbacks. For about half a decade people like to imagine other sides flying fullbacks in our side ignoring the fact Pep wouldn't have them doing the same things here as they do for their club. I see this as the same thing for all the reasons mentioned in my last post.

If we wanted Kane dropping into midfield like he does at spurs and England we may aswell just stick with the false 9 and have a midfielder do it better.

I'm not trying to typecast him as just a goalscorer here, he has has plenty of qualities beyond that i just don't think those specific qualities relating to his playmaking ability that have been a huge asset to spurs and would be an asset in many other teams are needed here because our style is different and the players already at the club that do that better than him.

His holdup play would be much more useful to us than him dropping deep. Having him actually upfront occupying defenders gives the creators in the side more room to work in. The ability to bounce a ball off him on the edge of the box opens up an easier path into those triangles in the inside forward positions where we do our best work.

I don't think anyone want's him to arrive here and be a false 9, it's just that he has the ability to do it when called upon and he'll do it very well (for me, better than anyone we currently have in the squad).

That he can be a poacher, can hold up the ball and that he can drop deep and be a playmaker make him prefect to lead the line for a Pep Guardiola team. Kane has that rare quality in a striker that attracts defenders to wherever he is, purely because he's more than a striker and is dangerous wherever he is on the pitch.

Only Pep knows how he's going to use him, and I imagine we'll see multiple versions to suit all our tastes within a game; other than lacking blistering pace there are no other weaknesses in Kane's game.
