I don't know much about Daniel Levy but is it possible his unwillingness to let Kane go to City had something to do (tread carefully here) with his feelings about the ethnicity of MCFC's owners?
Zipping through these posts the way one does, I misread you at first and was really surprised. I thought, now why did he post that? I initially thought you were saying that
Kane had misgivings about the ethnicity of City's owners!
Now that I've read you more carefully: yes, that Levy might have misgivings doesn't seem absolutely far fetched to me. I've always been surprised by how much otherwise balanced and reasonable Jewish friends go haywire whenever the question of Arabs (
any Arabs, not just Hezbollah or whoever) comes up.
That said, it's unlikely, I think. Levy just doesn't want to give up his one crown jewel and be truly hated by the fans. I think the money side of it never really interested him. He knew damn well he couldn't attract a striker anywhere near Kane's quality to a club that were last champions disturbingly close to my date of birth, even with £150 million to wave about (which we apparently never bid and were never prepared to, anyway).
With that contract, he had Kane by the short and curlies, and he knew it.
