Harry Kane

Very very happy we’re not spunking £150m on a 28 year ole with paper ankles.
Came on to say the same thing. I’ve been saying the same all Summer. Stupid stupid price. It would have been a serious ‘head’s gone’ moment from us to pay anything more than £90m for Kane.

What was your chant @ninjamonkey ? Can’t remember the start of the second verse.

“Fuck off Harry Hotspur
We do not want you here
Why we’re going after you
I’ve no fucking idea

???????????????
???????????????
So fucking stay at Tottenham
With that skateboard for a chin”

Glad we did not pay over the odds for him but without a world class striker we will not win the PL or CL this season as other teams have strengthened and we simply are not clinical enough. Bit like when Kompany left, we had no replacement and had a season with Fernandino in defence, now we could potentially have a season with Jesus, Torres and Sterling as only striking choices and none are exactly clinical
To say we will not win is daft at this stage, obviously our chances would improve with a natural finisher but Kane staying doesn’t suddenly swap our position with Spurs. We will still be challenging for trophies come spring.

Fuck my life - was never worth the money to begin with and now we wasted all Summer to get him it seems and have no alternative in the wings?

I disagree on the over thinking. We had a problem playing Chelsea twice, their wing backs kept getting space and causing problems. Pep played Sterling in the hope that it might pressure the back 3 and restrict their wingbacks. It didn’t work. Gundogan at DM wasn’t the issue.

England solved the same problem against Germany by going 3 at the back which we probably should have done. Bet we go 3 at the back against Chelsea this season.
With quality CB's like Laporte, Dias and Stones it really is a no brainer to play three at the back when required. Of course if Laporte leaves would not feel as confident with Ake or Walker in a three but it still might work. Clearly
such a system has implications for the normal approach by Pep but I don't see that it should be considered to be out of the question. If we lose to Chelsea next month in the same manner as the end of last season it will be another Pep own goal.

What it does show is always take the ITK gossip with a pinch of salt.
Don't get too wrapped up in these transfers as it ain't good for your health

If Kane not coming means Laporte and Bernardo are staying this is an added bonus. Sadly this may not be the case with regard to our 2 staying. ( though I have no knowledge on this)

While we are discussing the very serious probability that we are not getting a striker, I for one hope (though wouldn't bet on it) that we give delap ACTUAL chances to play, even though he's young. rather see him up there than gabby or torres who I am just not convinced are strikers.

Spurs not willing to negotiate smacks of sour grapes to me. Probably blame us for underachieving in the league.

Kane will probably get injured this season then we can all breath a sigh of relief.. Ronaldo would score 50 a season with us, £25 million, no brainer… He’s the ultimate professional and will be good for 3 seasons at least …
Hopefully you and others aren’t wishing for him to get injured.

He made it clear he wanted to come, we made it clear we wanted him but ultimately the price was too high. It happens.

I don't know much about Daniel Levy but is it possible his unwillingness to let Kane go to City had something to do (tread carefully here) with his feelings about the ethnicity of MCFC's owners?

Zipping through these posts the way one does, I misread you at first and was really surprised. I thought, now why did he post that? I initially thought you were saying that Kane had misgivings about the ethnicity of City's owners!
Now that I've read you more carefully: yes, that Levy might have misgivings doesn't seem absolutely far fetched to me. I've always been surprised by how much otherwise balanced and reasonable Jewish friends go haywire whenever the question of Arabs (any Arabs, not just Hezbollah or whoever) comes up.
That said, it's unlikely, I think. Levy just doesn't want to give up his one crown jewel and be truly hated by the fans. I think the money side of it never really interested him. He knew damn well he couldn't attract a striker anywhere near Kane's quality to a club that were last champions disturbingly close to my date of birth, even with £150 million to wave about (which we apparently never bid and were never prepared to, anyway).
With that contract, he had Kane by the short and curlies, and he knew it.
