Harry Kane

With respect I think that is more a reflection of the lack of knowledge English journos have of the European game rather than toure and silva being relative unknowns.

yaya toure had already won the champions league at Barca and David silva had just won the World Cup with Spain and was being chased by Madrid and United amongst others . Both where very highly rated players
Of course. Your first sentence sums it up perfectly.

Whether or not he's a City fan doesn't matter a jot.
Whatever any player says, the simple fact is that they will always follow the money. That's perfectly reasonable - As with any professional, it's how they make a living. That's why they pay agents to negotiate deals for them.
The very idea that a player would dismiss a deal because he isn't a fan of a particular club is risible.
They're ALL mercenaries, whoever they sign for, and good luck to them as far as I'm concerned.
If a club is stupid enough to throw daft money at them, it's not their fault
Agree with a lot of what you wrote. Even though what you said is true here - That's why they pay agents to negotiate deals for them - it’s bloody annoying that agents exist anyway as the clubs still pay agents. Like why the hell do I need to pay him/her for negotiating a deal for ‘their’ client? I’ve never understood the concept of it since I was a kid and heard a bit of how transfers work.

Apologies, I digress. There will always be several reasons for a player to move to a club. Sometimes, it’ll take money to be the final decider. Matters not if he’s a fan or not as you pointed out.

Which is exactly why we should be throwing silly money at Dortmund to get Haaland.
I don't think the issue is Dortmund, I am sure we could easily make the offer they would want, it's Riola and Big Alf, they want want a serious sweetener and probable future sell on clause.

On the Messi thread I have been arguing that his "love" for Barcelona will have a relatively minor influence (if it has any influence at all) on the direction his future career takes. Money will certainly be an influence but I don't believe he will necessarily simply "follow the money". Career goals, such as winning trophies, have an influence. All this is true of Haaland and Kane and it may be fair to say that Kane has actually been rather clearer on where he wishes to move to than Haaland. I suspect that the club is more concerned with the possibility of a deal and we don't know whether either Dortmund or Spurs are actually prepared to do business. Which forces us to consider the price. City won't budge from our own valuation apparently, but we don't know what that valuation is for either player or any other target. Our fans see a valuation in terms of silly money, which we will not pay - but this is a rather flexible concept; in 2011 we paid £38 (?) million for Sergio but by 2016 £40 million was not silly money for a full back and Rodri has shown that what is silly money changes every year. Last year we spent a record sum on a CB who was not even seen as a target until he signed. So some of the fees for EH an HK may not be as silly as we think. But our club is notoriously tight lipped so we'll just have to see. Personally I'd probably still prefer Haaland, but not perhaps as much as a couple of months ago, but I'd jump at Kane if we can't get Haaland.
