Harry Kane

Not being a betting man (and generally being a moron for all things to do with figures), could you explain whether the bookies think it is likelier that he will stay or go? Ta. The way I read those figures I understand it to mean that there's a substantially better chance of him staying at Spurs — but I'm probably wrong.
They think he will come to us.

Far too much noise around Kane & JG for these deals not to be advanced.

Patience is required blues.

Khaldoon always gets his man.

The number on the right is the amount you have to bet to win the number on the left. Eg 8/11 = bet £11 to win £8 (+your stake back if you win)

Thanks. Could you just parse the figures for me, briefly? How does that work? (then I won't have to ask anybody again…)

Betting odds have a tenuous relation to actual likelihood because they are set in reaction to the money laid.
The bookies don’t care about the outcome other than they want to keep hold of 40% of the money wagered.
Thus, the betting odds are not a true numerical reflection of what’s likely to happen.

Cheers to all. Wow. That means I'd have to put £11 on to get £4 back (+ my original stake, obvs)? They sound almost certain of it. Of course, it's just a reaction to the way people are betting, even I understand that. A sort of algorithm. Must mean that a shedload of people think it's a done deal, though.

But they are a reflection of what people think is likely to happen, no?
And those people might include some who know, or have a steer?

With all due respect your club is allergic to trophies and Kane knows this as much as anyone else. Money and trophies talk and he wants out. Do you really want a disgruntled player in the team, just to spite him and City?
Harry is not the type to down tools he’s as professional as it gets, the situation will be re evaluated next summer, where he would have far more power and more likely to leave. There’s no noise around this actually happening This summer which is why I was so surprised you all seem to think it’s a done deal. Seen a few of you post were spending more than 100 mil on players and have only sold alderweirld, which isn’t true. Foyth has also been sold for 14 million and already have some big money players off the wage bill, Bale-240k
Lamela-100k, Rose -80k, and so far have only spent 22 million on Gil, the Atalanta keeper was brought in on a 2 year loan with option to purchase . The players up for sale for example, Winks, Dier, Sanchez, Aurier and sissoko plus the ones already sold will cover for some of the transfer money spent this summer. Predict a net spent of around 25-30 million this summer with Kane still at the club. Can all come back to this post at the end of summer.

Yeah......if someone lumped £20k on Kane coming the odds would probably go from 4/11 to about 1/20,at a guess.

In fact, the bookies would probably shit themselves and not take the bet....thinking it was Kane's best mate or summat.
Then suspend the betting.

The appointment of Nuno should give you some indication of Levy's ambitions for the club - maximising achievement on a tight budget. It's a shrewd appointment and I think he'll do well, but selling a 28 yr old Kane for £100m plus fits very much within that plan as does getting rid of the dead wood. Without Kane you still have a solid unit with Son providing the pace/threat that Traore did at wolves, so will (imho) manage to Cement a top 3-4 place to pay for the stadium with minimal outlay on players. Bale will either get you a cup or be a financial millstone dependent upon injuries and how he responds to Nuno.As a club you have the opposite problem to Kane- you do well in the big games, but tend to get your arse handed to you by shite.
This has always been Levy’s mantra, but over the past 10 years he has completely reversed his view on selling best players. Walker is the only example of a first team player being sold in his prime, since Bale in 2013 and by all accounts that was more of a Pochettino decision. He was furious with Kyle letting the club know he wanted to leave during a crucial part of the season with us still in the title race and with an FA Cup semi on the horizon, he was subsequently dropped for all remaining big games that season.
levy’s stance on Kane has always been he’s not for sale, if we were strapped for cash and needed the money so desperately he would of been sold for the 100
Million city offered earlier in the window. I think City test his resolve again a bit later in the window but ultimately won’t go near what levy would even consider around the 160+ range. Personally if I see a city fan I’d be disappointed if the club were to spend that on him with Haaland also out there, and that’s not a knock on Kane, but the option of someone 8 years younger with a higher ceiling surely makes more sense .

I think you are probably right. I don't think City will spend the money being asked for Kane, especially if we get Grealish. We have plenty of options for our front three including Jesus, Torres, Sterling, Foden, Mahrez, and Delap so we won't struggle to score goals. However I think by next summer when Kane is 29 he will have missed his chance to win something. That's a shame because I think he is a great player who would have improved even more under Pep's guidance as Aguero did.

Until Kane is signed and playing no one can make that assertation. You seem entrenched in a view that is very presumptuous.

Kane could be great or he could be an expensive flop.
And I've said he could score lots of goals. In fact I've said he will score lots of goals.

Everyone's view is presumptuous until after the fact no matter what side of the line it falls....because no one knows.

The fact that he divides opinion ( basing it on the poll above) also shows that plenty of people are making opposite assertions to each other on both sides.
I think the basics of ant debate is opposing views...without it this forum is pointless

Yeah if you put 1.1m on it you’ll get 400k decent return for a dead cart ;)
