That sounds very similar to what we encountered. A black/grey cloud of gas but almost thick, it had form of sorts.

I dont know, i think i saw a full body apparition looked like a normal man apart from old style clothes.
went into the pub across from work, ordered a pint and went to the bog came back and asked who the old dude was in the toilet to be told they were only my mate the landlady and I in the joint. and the doors were locked (pub opened for nightshift boys at silly o clock).
