A transition would be where the spine of your squad (Kompany, Ferny, Silva, Aguero) are coming to the end of their careers and we try to replace them - which is what we;re doing tbh (Laporte, Rodri, Foden, whoever replaces Aguero)

Kompany was replaced by whoever Pep decided could take his place this season, be it Stones, Otamendi or Garcia. We decided not to buy a replacement because the club incorrectly deemed we didn’t need one.

Fernandinho in 17/18 was the best CDM in the world, we have replaced him with a statue.

Sane has everything to do with it. If you have someone of his quality and you lose it, be it through injury, or him wanting to leave the club, you cannot afford to replace with someone inferior. Pep decided that we could transition from Sane on the left and Sterling on the right, to Sterling left and Mahrez right. It failed miserably.

Silva has been on the decline for 18 months. We fans thought we would transition from him to Bernardo or Foden. We have just played a CL QF (our most important game since our title defence was over in November) and Bernardo and Foden were on the bench, while Gundogan was picking his arse on the pitch.

So far our transitional period has gotten off to a terrible start.
 
In a world where 5/10 is actually average and not 7, I’d give us a 4/10.

Negatives;

Many players have underperformed.

The new signings have made next to no impact although cancelo does seem to be finding his feet now.

positional changes for a few players have made us weaker in numerous areas.

tactical changes to our preferred style, with the slow inverted wingers have made us far more predictable and easier to play against.

Mediocre teams are having more joy stopping us playing.

we’re relying on individual moments of quality far more often than we used to.

we’ve struggled for goals in virtually every big game and we’ve lost that ability to grind out games and be consistent.

Positives;
walker has had an excellent season.

Kdb stepped up yet another level and isnthe best player in the league.

Jesus has stepped up a gear since the restart when he’s playing every game.

Foden is not just part of the squad but is now a regular starter.

Not much to take from this season but it’s not all doom and gloom, it’s all going to come down to how adaptable Pep is, if he changes a Few things tactically and we change a few players we could have a phenomenal season next year, if he sticks to his guns though we could have a very similar season to the last.

I think it’s been an inevitable season after 2 seasons of giving absolutely everything.
though last night was way beyond disappointing.
