Has the BBC become a Tory tool?

That same guidance classes someone like Lineker (I.e. a sports presenter commenting on political issues) as low risk though. I’d argue only an idiot (or someone with deliberate motivations) would actually think Lineker views, posted on a highly active personal account, are indicative of the BBC’s position on the matter - that was also the BBCs position both with this initially, previously with Lineker and also with others.
The part I highly is “in addition”. Blame yourself for your lack of comprehension for not being able to work out it specifically covers people such as himself. As the face of BBC flagship’s programme, there are few more high profile BBC personalities.

I’ve already said I agree with his comments. If he wishes to continue making them then he should resign if he doesn’t like his paymasters terms.

The BBC policies aren’t rigid though, they had no reason to involve themselves.
Agree - 100%.

But as a point of business conduct - no employer wants to lose business because some employee has taken a stance that pisses off viewers.

And thus - the BBC's outdated, standing policy, regarding political expression by employees - leading inevitably, and unfortunately, and unjustly, and problematically - to the firing of Lineker. The BBC's policies are a decade behind the times.

In retrospect - sure.

It isn’t a BBC policy though its a charter imposed on them. However I don’t believe what Lineker did was against that charter nor was it very different to what many BBC presenters / personalities have done previously. It would only have needed any intervention if he’d been a news / politics presenter or commentator. I also doubt what he said would effect MOTD viewers in anyway.

Cheers mate - from across the pond, I wasn't aware of that nuance.

If though, violation of some sort of charter rule was ambiguous, not certain, cloudy... even more reason to let sleeping dogs lie. Huge mistake to fire Lineker.

And expanding on this - should this sort of charter rule be revisited in the light of 21's century + 20 years politics?

Apparently tonight’s show will only be 20 minutes long, according to Mike Keegan. Will probably watch it just for the novelty value, but no commentators will be a bit weird/shit. Not really bothered about the punditry, as I usually skip through that when watching on catch up anyway.
