Has the BBC become a Tory tool?

It’s really up to the government to introduce legislation that makes it very expensive for the owners of empty homes to leave them empty long term. But they don’t want to do that because if they solve the problem it doesn’t help with their anti immigrant and asylum seeker rhetoric that they’re using to fuel their culture war that they hope will help them win the next election or at least avoid being wiped out.

That will be the govt in hock to all those Russian money launderers and full of MP's who also have investments in commercial property - not a hope in hell of them doing anything

Agreed, so I ask you again. How do you implement it.

Idealism is one thing but pragmatism and reality (however much you disagree with it) are totally different, so I ask again how will your ideals be achieved?

Not being funny but we have to deal with the hand we have been dealt not the one we would have liked to have been dealt.
I’ve told you.
By legislation.
But the government doesn’t want to do it because it has an impact on their donors.

Correct.
But it doesn’t mean it’s not what they should be doing. Hopefully a future Labour government will be less in hock to foreign criminals.

I know that. So what your suggesting isn't (rightly or wrongly) practical, so how do we house all the existing homeless in the UK and the additional people entering the country illegally. We cannot just let everyone in without realistic and deliverable plans to accommodate them.

Of course it’s practical.

The problem is we have a government that would rather try and implement something that is hugely expensive, inhumane, breaks international law and is doomed to failure because of their ties to people who benefit from what they do, that also has the advantage to them that it fuels their culture war.

Simple answer is don’t believe their bullshit and vote them out.

You, my friend, are falling for the Tory bullshit. We are not being 'overrun' by refugees. The problem of lack of housing, poor health service, schools and public services in general has been the running down of these services by this government. If we hadn't run them down to the point where they are now we could easily cope with extra refugees but then people like you wouldn't be complaining about 'to many illegal immigrants' and 'our system can't cope'. Wise up.

We are where we are and not where you, me or anyone else wants us to be.

Today, here and now we are the victims of 12 years of Tory austerity measures and we have to find a way out.

IMO a way out is definitely NOT more Tory leadership but it is equally not throwing petrol on to the flames, you are quite entitled to disagree with me as I am with you. Before we can be as benevolent as you and me want us to be we need to fix the current dilemma. The problem is we do not have any realistic options available to us. Idealism just does not work for the majority.

And, if taxes have been going up, revenues rising for the Chancellor, during a lengthy period of austerity, meaning we all take cuts, where has all the money gone seeing that our borrowing has risen dramatically over the period the Tories have been in government?
