Has this season turned the laws of the game a farce?

The Aussie version is just the same as the one used at the World Cup, I'd gladly take that in the Premier League, it fucking works and is transparent.

Cheers for that we have enough of them burning atm.

Did we have the chit-chat at the world cup? I can't remember. I think we didn't have the verbals in the Confederation Cup pilot. I seem to recall wondering WTF were they doing when one blatant red card, VARred on field by the ref, was downgraded to a yellow! Can't remember whether that was 2013 or 2017, but either way yer'd think that, in the meantime, the goons at our FArce, the PL and PiGMOL would have got some version that was merchantable, fit for purpose and a system in which fans had an ounce of faith. Of all the elements of a VAR system it is the VERBALS that, to the fan in the ground, is the most important aspect. Ball in the net and we should hear from the ref: is there any reason i cannot award a goal? Answer should come back: No goal, Michael, that fuckin' Dutch Dipper was playing fuckin' netball with the ball. Get the bastard booked! No goal!

Only when we reach that would I genuinely acknowledge a Dipper title as being fair and transparent.

He wasn’t being cute in the slightest as instead of clearing it he was shielding it out for their corner! It was a idiotic levels of defending of high proportions. However, it was a foul all day long, he was barged in the back and that’s not even up for debate. If he’d thrown himself on the floor we’d have been given a free kick. If only we had some form of technology to notice the clear foul despite the player not diving!

The whole VAR thing is just a complete joke.
Not even open for debate, ok then.

and the player pretending ottamendi had broken his neck in the second half.

yes that was very odd the player stood there for about a second or to saw City had cleared the ball than fell to the ground as if his neck had been broken and I don't think Ottamendi touch him.

I think I would be a lot happier if they had a third choice of a decision that was 'Not decisive' as they do in rugby, Yes it was a pen, no it wasn't, not decisive!
But who would be given the benefit of the doubt if a goal or penalty were ruled “not decisive”?

(Please don’t say Liverpool. Haha!)

Presumably the defending side in the event of a penalty claim and the attacking side in the event of offside?

i wonder how many more penalties we see this season compared to last? The view of pundits was there would be a lot more goals but seeing the number chalked off today i doubt it very much, these off sides by millimeters are the real killer of the game.
Agree but the offside law should be amended accordingly.

For me, the problems with current officiating are:
1) Delayed offside technology - as a result of the delay, sometimes a goal is scored, fans are jubilant and then... wait... wait... wait... no, it's offside and doesn't count. If the offside could be called instantly we'd eliminate all of the unnecessary emotion and drama. FWIW, existing AI technology surely is capable of making offside calls instant with plenty of training data - FIFA needs to invest in the technology and make it universal among top leagues/competitions;
2) Some rules are silly - for example, an inadvertent hand ball by an attacker leading to an assist for a goal - completely unnecessary and should be removed. Another... why is a touch by the ref an immediate hand ball, but obstruction/collision not so? This is somewhat harder to resolve - as defenders might intentionally run into the ref in hopes of interrupting a promising offensive attack. My tentative solution - the ref is simply a "goal post" - if the ball hits him, so what - if a defender/offensive player collides with him ditto - just carry on.

Other than that... I'm happy with the current rules (albeit something may have escaped my attention).

I'm not a big fan of rugby and the whole idea of it being some sort of noble sport is absolute bullshit. But their system of officiating is fucking lightyears ahead.

Aside from the better implementation of video assistance, the refs mic's need to be heard on TV. The only two things I can think that have prevented this so far is that it means antagonistic twats like Mike Dean will fall out of favour quickly and it means the officials actually have to have the bollocks to clamp down on gobshites running their mouths for ninety minutes.

We need to hear communication between officials so that we know the process of decision making in real-time instead of them trying to retrofit explanations for terrible decisions post match.

I've heard people complain about the lack of respect and the amount of pressure put on referees. Well they can start by helping themselves, having zero tolerance for petulant twats on the pitch and letting the public have an appreciation for what it is that they're actually doing and why they're doing it.

The VAR thing is absolutely fine, in theory, but the application has been utterly amateurish. Maybe there's an argument to be made there for certain people in positions of power not wanting it to be a success but I'll stop well short of convincing myself it has, by design, been brought in to favour certain other teams over us.

I will genuinely give up on watching city live if this var farce continues. I absolutely hate it. Can’t stand it and will not be watching premiership football next season if this continues. I will enjoy lower league grounds and games.

I did not even celebrate any goal last night. It is a complete farce.
