Hated Footy Phrases...

This is usually said by Andy Townsend... "he's played it through the gully."

A gully being a deep channel, formed by water. Didn't realise this match was being played in the fucking Lake District, Andy.
 
Another one of Townsend's is: "He put a nice shape on the ball".

And what shape was that? Square? Oblong? Oval?

And another one: "The ball was just a bit too big for him". No it was simply too fucking high!
 
"Their defenders were too square"

None of them actually know what they mean when they say this. But a goal was scored, and the defending looked dodgy. So the defenders must have been "too square"
 
He's a top, top player.

I get the mental image that in 6 years time they'll be saying "He's a top, top, top, top, top, top player"
