SHIT ON USHITED TODAY

Re: City v United pre match thread

Forgive me if this has already been covered in the previous 50 pages but tomorrow has to be back to basics for me. Gung ho, over committing 4-4-2 has to stop and be replaced by a more reasoned brand of football that plays to the age and experience of our squad.

4-2-3-1 where Yaya is the centre of the 3 and not part of the 2 will provide a stability and strength that has been sadly absent for too many important games. Let's start to act like champions and keep clean sheets rather than shipping goals at the current appalling rate of 1 goal for every 5 attempts the opposition has.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely loved the 4,5,6 and 7's of last season but right here right now I'd happily take 1-0 and 2-0 in matches that we completely control for 90 minutes.

It's time to be pragmatic, Time to stop the naivety, time to stop overcommitting, time to be ruthless. Time to outclass the scum

It will be either very brave or stupid If he sticks with 4-4-2 tomorrow. If it goes our way and we win he'll shut a lot of people up who are calling for a 4-5-1 formation (myself included) but if he goes with it and we lose there's going to be some real pressure on him for the first time since his arrival.

The Daily Star (ha!) now suggesting just this will happen - Milner supposedly to start in a 3 man midfield.

I'm kind of with the camp that thinks way too much is made of the formation. But also I am hoping that this is indeed true as I think something of a shakeup is called for and that this is Milner's best role. Also would seem to suit the opponent. Crap-for-a-head will probably be coming at us and Milner seems best used to my eyes against managers who play this way.

The shake up required is in intensity , graft, guile , better clinical finishing and a will to win in particular a real desire to get back into a game should we fall behind.

These are non negotiables and non related to the set up.

38 defeats from the last 39 games we have trailed at half time is a disgrace for a side of this quality and international level experience.

Of course we can put the game to bed in the first half to not have to concern ourselves with breaking this sequence but we know the way we have been playing this won't happen and we will have to be fully committed to the task for the whole game to come out on top.

Spot on mate!!

We've really got to start working harder to keep a decent shape, and stifle the opposition, when we haven't got the ball.

Zabba, Komps & Jimmy apart, I'm beginning to question just how many more of our current squad have the capability or desire to do so, whichever formation "Pellers" goes with.

For the record however, I too am of a similar opinion to "Paul_Powers_Tash" and suggest that a 4-2-3-1 formation gives us our best chance of winning.

Re: City v United pre match thread

We'll come out with all guns blazing and everyone will play a blinder.

Aguero will have the game of his life, Kompany will be a rock, Zaba will be awesome, and they will dispatch the red shite with ease.

I'll be walking up Ashton Road with the same feeling I have when I visit the dentist before the game, but laughing all the way back down the hill after the match.

City 4, The shit of the earth nowt.

Re: City v United pre match thread

I think MDM desperately needs to be Playing ahead of Mangala, I know the prem is a tough cookie for defenders to crack but EM is nowhere near ready for a derby. Also we need Jimmy playing wide with Navas and Nasri having avfree role supported by Fernando as dinho is proving to be a little sluggish at the mo.
Hart
Clichy Vk MDM Zabba
Fernando,Yaya
Jimmy, Navas
Aguero

It doesnt matter how many trophies we win (yeah I know, punch me) how rich our owner is, or how shit they play, I really hate the dread that hirs me late at night before the derby. My whisky gets depleted, my wine has been sunk and my head is gonna be twatted but i still feel the unease I feel every time I see Guy butters step up for his penalty.

Agree with this....I think at the minute it is not working with the 4-4-2 formation, I am hoping he goes with 4-2-3-1 or 4-5-1 as this game is going to be won in midfield. The rags midfield are not as good as ours, we need to overload them and provide the decent cover for the back four when required. The rags are going to play on the counter because that imo is the only way they can score against us.

They will try to spring out fast if we lose the ball deep in their half. That said I think we play 4-2-3-1 \ 4-5-1 we will dominate from start to finish.

I would go with:

HART

ZABA KOMPANY DEMI KOLAROV

FERNANDINHO FERNANDO

MILNER YAYA NASRI

AGUERO

I only hope MP reads this, that team scores three and keeps a clean sheet.

Glad you see it that way....milner will give us the extended work rate that will be required for this game. Navas for me will be brought on with around 20 minutes to go to extend their back line and allow us to counter with the red shit looking to try and get back into the game
