Have Ajax thrown in the towel being an entity in big European Competitions?

Thats the rigged system Psychedelic Casual is talking about. And even PL has shaken off competitions in Germany, Spain, Italy and France.

In the end its all about money. Albeit we seem to handle our spending way better than any of our rivals in England and abroad.

As for Ajax I hold no sympathy for them. They are the rags of the Netherlands. Get the same protection from the media. And had in Michael Van Praag their David Gill.
Btw it was Cruyff who changed football as a player and asa manager. Not Ajax.
Cruyff was only one of a number of players under Rinus Michels who was taught the Ajax philosophy. However, Michels was only one of a number of players under Jack Reyrnolds. All of them within the Ajax system. It all comes from Ajax… and Manchester:

That might make some sense if England's TV money dominance didn't start before it had 4 guaranteed CL places.
It was far more even back when both leagues had two then three each before we were awarded one of the Eredivisies spots, amping it 4-2 in about 2002. England, Spain and Italy have always had higher TV revenues than the rest but where once there was a bridgeable disparity in terms of the quality of teams you can build, now there’s no comparison.

That’s why from 1992-2004 there were three none top4-league winners of the CL and from 2005 to now there have been none and there probably never will be again.

These leagues and clubs are locked-in where they are.

They gave it up nearly 30 years ago when they helped form the Champions League.

I would say that the massive domestic TV money increases in England is a direct long-term consequence of having more teams able to qualify for the CL (in some seasons England and Spain have had five) and able to earn the money that comes with CL that has increased the quality of our teams and has increased the interest in the Premier League thus has increased our TV revenues.
It absolutely is.

They have given football so much in the past years but so have teams like Honved etc (just before my time you understand FOC) so nothing is a given. One of my favorite players of all time is Johann Neeskens.
Spoken to a lot of Dutch people on holiday over the years (PSV, Feyenoord fans) and Ajax are pretty much known as the dutch rags with celebrity fans and hangers on and friends in the press. (You know the story).

It's a shame I suppose but if they had a rich benefactor ..... It happened in France!

The Dutch philosophy only came to the fore in 1970 when it was Feyenoord who became the first Dutch club to win the European Cup. Ajax then came to the fore with a once in a lifetime group who came through their system together winning the next 3 European cups and forming the majority of the great Dutch national side of the 1970's.

Cruyff was the one responsible for refining the Dutch system at Barca with more emphasis on retaining possession and pressing. Pep was coaching the junior teams and further refined the system when we saw them playing through teams in crowded areas through amazing close control and passing.

The Ajax philosophy is a distant relation to the Pep blueprint we see today. Peps system has also changed since he arrived at City. The only thing constant through the systems is that they only work with players with excellent ball control and technical ability.

Did the Ajax Stadium tour about 7 years ago, really enjoyed it, the guide showed us a section of seats that were on the half way line that were €5k per season, lot of money to watch football that’s not too class anymore.

Ajax's top earners are on €25,000 a week.

That's literally all you need to know.
True. And the Dutch league is similar to the Scottish league. A handful of bigger clubs and some big Derby's but after that it falls away to very small clubs with minimal interest.

Most Dutch, Belgians, Danes etc follow the top European leagues more than their own. Their best players are all in those leagues.

Having a population of 70m people, a significant amount of whom will pay £30 a month to watch football on TV is not a rigged system.
The money comes mainly from Asia. Not UK. Its not millions but billions ….
Rigged as in having a number 4 in the league playing the CL final?

I understand why that story attract UK readers mate. But Reynolds had zero knowledge nor influence on total football that was introduced by Michels and Cruyff the player. As time went by it was clear for everyone that it was Cruyffs’ filosofie and not so much Michels who btw was an excellent manager. As was Reynolds in his days.
