have you info from inside that this was the case, did the agent contact city trying to up the money/?

It sounds totally reasonable and plausible. Mancini/ City to agent "yes we are only offering a maximum of x per week wages and we do not guarantee anyone a starting position". I could also imagine Abramovich taking the opposite approach.

This in a nutshell

Still without a guarantee on who's the manager next season at Chelsea as they persist in chasing Guardiola, this is 100% Abramovich signing.

He would of guaranteed him "if fit you play" terms ala Shevchenko and early days of Torres, no matter how bad they were playing.

He simply wouldn't of got any of them guarantees at City...............

so target #1 of the summer has failed, despite us being the PL champs.

who are world class signing then? because we need 2 wingers.

sigh...there was me hoping the league would make us #1 choice finally.

Thankfully Torres is going nowhere and with Hazard's wish to play in the middle behind a striker it could stop Chelsea buying someone like Falcao or Cavani! If they replaced Torres with either we'd have real reason to be scared.

There still chasing Hulk aswell.................

Is anyone else a bit worried about Chelsea's strength next season now?

No.

Their main striker has gone. Torres is f***ed. It all rests on Hazard now. No pressure.

Don't be stupid. Torres was showing signs of coming back to some kind of form at the end of the season. A good pre season and a few early goals and with the players he will have feeding him he could be lethal again. Chelsea are a very big threat next season.

Torres wasn't hitting form. He was simply marginally better than he has been for the last two years. He hardly looked on fire. IMO he lost a yard of pace two years ago and hasn't got it back. Take away the goal against Barca, and look at his goal scoring record against top half clubs in England over the last two years. It is dreadful. I cannot see a team winning the league with him as the main striker.

Hazard has made what he thinks is the best decision for him. People will accuse him of being a mercenary. So what? It's not as if Yaya, Aguero and others joined us because as kids they had a poster of Kevin Horlock on their walls. Saying that, I find it strange that an owner is seemingly picking the players he wants. Thankfully we have Khaldoon running our club.

It is disappointing that we missed out on such a talented player with a lot of potential but we can still improve significantly by signing other players. He wanted to play as a No10. However, we have at least two better No10s in Yaya and Dave.

You absolute pussy.

I think we've done well to stand on and not be drawn into a bidding/wages war.

We dont need to do that anymore. Chelsea, despite being CL winners do. Chelsea need to strengthen comsiderably and also to make a statement. We dont.

It's a good move by our club.

It's bad news for Utd who clearly were never getting anywhere near this kid.

I feel Chelsea may well just 'ignore' ffp and go on a mad spree this summer. More fool them I say.

The sheikh will have things well under control.

We were until Chelsea won the flukiest Champions League you will ever see. People were actually cheering them on and now they're poaching our targets.

Hazard didn't rate his chances at City so maybe that tells you everything you need to know

As for where does that leave mata? In a better position than before as he wont be carrying their team.

The advantage for City is that our biggest rival didn't get him either, and CFC have spent big monies to get him which increases our chances of landing any other targets

I think we should just bid for truly outstanding players like Bale if he becomes available. You can't really say that £30m plus on Hazard would be monies well spent when you have silva, Nasri, tevez and AJ in that role too. Would have been a waste and might have seen us lose one of our own.
