Heatwave Europe

My son and family are off to Greece very soon and I’ve seen some of the scary footage from Rhodes. Is anyone out there in these hotspots at the moment (where there’s not fires actually raging) to give a wider view of reality on the ground ?

Finally got through to ‘On The Beach’ chat this morning, they told me as our EasyJet flight is still scheduled to leave tomorrow, that we either go, or we lose the holiday, and no refund. I asked can you guarantee that you can get us to the hotel and not leave us stuck in Rhodes airport, but they said that’s not up to them. Basically we’re going to have to go tomorrow, or lose 3 grand.

That seems at odds with what they are saying on their website...

Obviously I don't know the details of your package and I'm no expert but I would have thought the position they've taken is very difficult for them to defend.

That's the problem with On The Beach and others like them: the "Package" is actually a collection of unrelated bookings - it's not a true package where you either go or get a refund.

This is what they said in the chat:

Unfortunately at the moment as I am sure you can appreciate this is a fast moving situation and we are still awaiting information from airlines/hotels, our Operations team are taking this on a day by day basis, liaising with local authorities in Rhodes to see what is the best course of action.

I can confirm that we are not offering any amendments for holidays due to fly within 7 days at the moment, I am sorry. If your booking is affected or cancelled, you will be given at least 24 hours notice.

I can see your hotel isn't one of the hotels currently affected by the wildfires and this is no cause for concern for our Operations team, so as it stands, your booking is still due to depart.

Ah right I see, never used them. Out of interest I had a look at their website and it says this, I wonder how that work in the case of BJC's case?
  • There is always at least one trader who is liable for the proper performance of all the travel services included in the contract.

Hope you are with the same airline each way...it'd be really messy if the return carrier stops flights.
