Hector Bellerin

really hope we can get get bellerin and gaya! two young and exciting full backs who pep could turn into real world class players for us

I think he's good but I don't think we should buy him, his heart will always be at Barca and Arsenal now and we shouldn't really be forcing buys through like that anymore... lets get young talented and committed to the City cause for the long term for that money.
You can't 'force' anyone to sign, if he signs for us then he's obviously not that set on Barcelona and couldn't give a stuff for Arsenal.

Wenger's dismissed the rumours, saying that Bellerin's long-term future is at Arsenal. Not that you'd expect him to say any different, of course. Rumours that he'll be offered a new contract - it'll be interesting to see if he signs it.

July 2011-
'Will he be at the club next season? I say yes.

'There is always speculation when a player has only one contract year to go and has not signed a new contract that he might leave the club. But Samir Nasri is very happy at the club and is committed to staying at the club.

I watched his interview on youtube, and Wenger did look pretty smug. Arsenal are supposedly planning double deals for Iwobi and Bellerin, so im guessing nothing has been formalized as of yet. If Iwobi signs a deal, and not Bellerin, then there might be something in it. However, there has been no indication of Bellerin's future other than newspaper speculation, and now today the papers are reporting Bellerin wants to go to Barcelona. So they are all over the place and showing no consistency.

Arsenal will get to sit down with Bellerin and talk to him, which is a luxury we and Barcelona do not have. This is a club who pays Walcott 120k week, and Giroud 100k a week. So im pretty sure when they sit Bellerin down they will flash a 6 figure salary in front of him. Dont rule out Bellerin signing an extension. Arsenal are looking pretty good, and the kid is only 21 and could get very excited at the prospect of an instant pay rise of north of 100k a week.

The real indicator is Iwobi. Iwobi is destined to sign a new deal, and if he does, and not Bellerin - then Bellerin may be stalling. But until then, no one knows anything. Which is why Wenger's smugness in the interview when talking about Bellerin, might lead me to assume possible negotitations with Bellerin are going well.

Not sure you can gauge anything from Wenger ahead of negotiations, he consistently presents an assured negotiating position...right until it's clear the player wants to leave. Then it'll be about the fee. Hector is still tied to a contract thru 2019 so the club isn't in a rush to move him, even if he fails to sign the extension

No you can't force a player but you are taking that too literally, forcing a move through could just be aggressive negotiations when you have to jump through that many hoops to get a player to sign for your club other a favoured one that's what I'd call forcing the issue.

I see where your coming form regarding Wenger potentially putting on a brave face. However, as you mentioned, regardless of the extension, Bellerin still has 3 years left to run. RVP and Nasri were sold because they were in the final year of thier contract, so even if Bellerin does want to leave, it will be an absolute sh.. fight trying to force Arsenal's hand. They have lose players in the past, but they dont exactly give them up easily. They will resist until the player is in the last year of the contract, or in Cesc's case, I read he wanted out two years before Wenger eventually caved in - and it was for reasons along the lines of allowing Cesc to return to his family. It Cesc wanted to move to Italy or Germany, it wouldnt have happened.

if Bellerin wants to return 'home', then he could end up at Barcelona, but Manchester isnt exactly home for Bellerin, so I think there is no way Wenger will allow Bellerin to leave at the end of the year. Best case scenario, we sign him for the 19-20 season. And if that is the case, do we wait another year to potentially sign him? Do we sign a stop gap right back for the 18-19 season? IMO the right back situation needs to be resolved ASAP, preferably in the january transfer window, so the idea of keeping the right back position 'open' for Bellerin for almost two seasons, is very risky.

And the above is on the assumption he doesnt sign a extension, or have a desire to return to Barcelona. So which ever way you cut it, we are behind Arsenal and Barcelona in terms of positioning to aquire Bellerin's future. I know many like to point out our history of signing Arsenal players, but in my view, that will work against us, as it has made Wenger bitter toward us, and will only reinforce his stance on not selling Bellerin unless he absolutely has to (final year of his contract - yet Bellerin currently has 3 years to run).

I just get the feeling, there are to many obstacles, and given our RB situation needs sorting urgently (and this wont be lost on Wenger), we might have to spend significant money on a specialist right back whose name is not Bellerin.
