What about a club being gifted a stadium funded by the lottery?

Don't know who that is but City have a 200 year lease on the Etihad. A stadium that was built by Sport England in partnership with Manchester City Council. They needed an anchor tenant otherwise they would have built a temporary structure that would have been dismantled after the commonwealth games. Is the lottery gift another made up myth?

As far as I am aware,the Commonwealth Games would have never been awarded to Manchester if City had not agreed to become the tenant after the games finished.
Something like "A White Elephant"is the term that springs to mind.

And Manchester City only took up the lease after conducting a referendum among the supporters. So therefore, we are directly responsible for Sheikh Mansour's takeover.

Liverpool have tried to buy success since the 80's, they've just wasted a shit load of money and been badly run.

This was made by a Liverpool fan, who actually criticises his own supporters for the myth that Liverpool don't spend money, and for years were in constant transition.

They were by far the biggest spenders in the 80's, in their glory days. They were the second biggest spenders at the start of the PL era, behind Blackburn, and they have been right in the top 4 big spenders from then on, trying to buy back the league.

My comment was meant to be a riposte to dippers who bang on that City were given a free stadium which is manifestly not the case in view of the payments on the lease made to the council and City's commitment to pay the costs of any infrastructure projects such as the South Stand extension and other contracted expenses.

It's also a riposte to similarly minded rags the vast majority of whom are entirely ignorant of the fact that John Henry Davies gifted them Old Trafford without the club paying a penny towards its construction.
