Darn Hill, the Summit, aaaaahhhh brings back such happy memories
I used to watch "exotic dancers" on a sunday afternoon in a pub in darn hill. I think it was called the criterion.
All the pubs round there were burnt out years ago

Didnt Heywood have record for the most pubs per person in a town?

Sunday afternoons in the Criterion , Wow that takes me back .

I lived a stones throw away from the Cri and Sundays were the best days of the week .

I can still remember lifting Mickey onto his stool at the bar ( cant remember his second name )

I think it was the most pubs in a square mile or something like that. On the road through the town, every other building was a pub until you got to a junction which takes you to pilsworth. There was a pub on the corner called the brickhouse.

some parts of the Summit are scummy as wel now....

I have lived in Heywood for 42 years and live on the summit and have a front door still attached to its hinges and NO broken windows

Not as bad as you are making it out to be

Go to all City's games on the Heywood Blues Supporters coach with a sound bunch of lads

Born in Heywood, Live in Heywood, Die in Heywood

It's probably worse. There are some great people still living in Heywood but the town has been on a downward spiral since the late 70s.
I can still remember when it had a proper market and a decent high street. I can even remember when Angel Meadow had a mixture of young families, older couples and pensioners. Now it's full of drug dealers and scum. Rochdale council has been moving all it's scum and problem families into Heywood for a long time.

Heywood is now a shithole and will only get worse.

I was at the Brickhouse near enough 7 days a week from 96 to 2002. A home from home. There were more pubs if you carried on through (Talbot, Horse & Jockey, Beaconsfield Towler, Summit). Pub crawls were great. Pint in every pub from one end to the other and then try and do the return leg. Good job all the chippys were dotted between the pubs to help get some stodge in or else you had no chance.

It's not just Heywood. Middleton has been used as a dumping ground by rochdale council for years now.

Yeah it did when Jakesy had it. Then he had the Britannia for a while (now the vets), but that was short lived. Only see Jakesy in the Newmarket these days. Remember him losing a few teeth on the way back from the 2-2 with Liverpool when we got relegated and the coach got bricked in Collyhurst off the rags.
